The classic English Khmer dictionary since 1977. 27 Jan. 2001
By Richard Arant - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Six years in compilation, Franklin Huffman and Im Proum's English-Khmer 690 page dictionary is really a must-have for any English speaker who prepares Khmer language material. The work includes 40,000 English entries and subentries, cleverly organized to reflect the semantic structure of both English and Khmer. An example from the introduction explains why the English verb "to carry" requires 37 subentries. This is a desk dictionary. The printing is crisp. Re-prints are found in markets throughout Cambodia, so the work is evidently of considerable utility to native Khmer speakers. Newer dictionaries have started to appear in Cambodia since 1992, but none can match Huffman and Proum.
Came missing part of the book 21 July 2011

The dictionary looked great, but it was missing the last few letters of the alphabet and all of the appenixes (appendices?). If you order, check to be sure the whole book is there! Returned this one.

It has a wide variety of obscure words as well as
what one would expect, plus a very thorough
list of idioms using those words.

Easy to use and native pronunciation can be heard too. 12 July 2007
By Tadashi Tamura - Published on
Format: Hardcover
Entry words or example sentences are placed in some daily categories. Then we can search our need words or sentences easily only by click. And the most important feature is the headline words and sentences and thier translations are readed up by natives. We can not only look but also hear the words and sentences.
On the other hand, words being categorized when the suitable catecogry cannot or hardly be found, it is difficult to reach the purpose words. I want to be the A-Z index added.
And the Khmer readers and recording conditions are not constant. Sometimes it's sounded odd.
I think this is some travel handbook or learnig Khmer prounciation item rather than a dictionary.
