Product Description

Product Description

Exercise to music classes, whether in the form of aerobics, keep-fit, stretch or conditioning, are still an extremely popular way for women and men to obtain general all round fitness. This updated and revised edition shows readers how to recognize and choose a qualified and competent teacher, understand the correct use of rhythm and music, know how to exercise safely, assess your fitness level and monitor your progress. The section on anatomy provides a basic understanding of the components of physical fitness and shows, with diagrams, how the heart and lungs respond during exercise and how the muscles and joints work.

This is an easy to read, well written, and very informative book, which covers all aspects of Exercise to Music. It's a good guide for both teachers and participants of classes: the guidelines for participants (i.e. what to expect from a class and the teacher) are well explained in an understandable and concise manner; already qualified instructors, and would be instructors, will find this book to be a perfect reference. After having taught for many years, it's easy to fall into bad teaching habits; this book reminds all teachers of the aims and objectives of teaching, and taking part in, an Exercise to Music class.

The book explains, in easy to read detail, the components of fitness; the various factors affecting fitness, and how regular physical activity contributes to overall health and well-being. For those who are not thinking of qualifying as an instructor, but have a general interest in health and fitness, this book is ideal.

The book takes us through an interesting guide of basic anatomy and physiology, covering: the skeleton; joints; muscles and muscular actions; circulation and the respiratory system. Certainly essential information for exercisers everywhere.

If you go to 'aerobics' on a regular basis, it's handy to know how the structure of the class is worked out, what the aims of each section of the class are, and the changes your body goes through. This book tells you all of that, and also covers how instructors use music in the class. There is also a section on controversial exercises - important for anyone to know! Both the prevention and treatment of injuries are covered in here, plus some very good, sensible advice on nutrition.

As a participant of Aerobics, and other Exercise to Music classes, I wish I had read this book. As an instructor, my copy is always to hand for reference. It's an invaluable book for all levels of exercisers.
