A hero to the last 3 May 2006

This is an excellent biography of Sir John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury. He began life as a minor lord of Royal descent who rose to great prominence being raised with the future King Henry V of England. He serves as the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, then becomes a Marshal of English forces fighting in France. He battles Joan of Arc and others in his attempts to assert the English claim to the French Throne. In the end he dies fighting to protect his so and his honor. This is more of a political biography but it really helps set the stage for Talbot to walk across. Being a man who lived more than 600 years ago, this book presents a good image of who he was in a professional aspect with some minimal personal insight. A good read with nice diagrams to help explain troop movements and battles.
