Great new footie book reveals fans' real life stories of supporting England. --Loaded Magazine

Product Description

This book reveals the funny, the absurd, the emotional, the peculiar, the shocking and unbelievable that is part and parcel of being a die-hard England fan. Tales of unwavering dedication and loyalty, of personal sacrifice and emotional trauma, are entwined with stories highlighting superb camaraderie, intense excitement and proud patriotism. Wives as well as jobs have been lost, overdrafts have plunged to new depths and countless sickies have been thrown just to be there to cheer on the Three Lions. Real England stories, told by Real England Fans.

Whilst enjoying the delights of Kazahkstan with England last year, I came across a leaflet asking England fans if they wanted to contribute to a book about, us, the fans. I thought, it's worth a bash, and if nothing else, it would make such a pleasant change from the rows and rows of Hoolie books to be found, somewhat disparingly, under the topic of sport. I dropped the editor a line by email with my thoughts, not expecting him to contact me back saying he loved the story and could I provide more. A few months later and the end result is, Im delighted to say, out on the book shelves, and I have no doubt that this will sell, and sell and sell! Get your first copy whilst you can, as this will be reprinted many times!!! It simply has it all, genuine stories of hardship, undying loyalty from a group of fans who suffer from the disease which got me all those years ago - OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder!!!). You will feel as though you are actually on the journeys with fans, experience the highs and the lows, fancy sneeking in to Turkey when anyone with an English passport is refused entry??!! It's all here. I for one can't wait for Volume's 2, 3 and 4 etc. Well done David Lane, and yes, I will share that beer with you in Graz!!!

England Till I Die 6 May 2010
By Mrs Fez
Loved my husband's contribution to this book - suspect that all the naughtiness has been edited - however know that he felt privileged to share his experiences in such company.
The press used to talk about hooliganism being the 'English Disease' - I think the 'English Disease' is an overwhelming desire no matter what the obstacles - work, relationships, visa restrictions, locations, local hostility from fans and authorities, cost - no matter what to be there in a Foreign Field for 90 minutes + half time that will forever be ENGLAND.
The book from my perspective seems to encapsulate the experiences of not just those featured but of every England Fan who left these shores in search of beer, loose women, excitement, and the holy grail of England winning the World Cup after 44 years of hurt.
The book has given me a better understanding of how and why - he does what he does, and all the lies, and subterfuge as he puts it when he tells me that he has been called into Fabio's Squad for some Eastern European away after he's already booked the flights.

I would recommend it to all football fans and those left behind!

Regards

Written by real football fans who have experienced first hand the pain of continuously travelling to see England play and not quite succeed. But still they travel in their droves. Because it's not all about the football but the three or four days in a foreign country surrounding the game which makes the trip. What other reason would one have to travel to Kazukhstan?

This book is hilarious. If you spend half your earnings following the team you support, you will know what its like to plot your way around the country (or europe even) trying to catch as many games as you can. So when you read stories like the guy who lost so many jobs because he was on a 222 consecutive england match mission, you have to chuckle. Especially when he ends up with a job in a school and has to pretend he hates football with a passion so that there is no suspicion when he continuously calls in sick around each England game. Its amazing to hear stories from folk in their 70s who have followed their national side for years. And also good to hear from the youth who only started travelling recently. I must admit I found it amusing the young lad (not so young now) who escaped off to Mexico for world cup 86 and ended up crashing in the ambassadors residence. Quality !! Loads and loads of pictures taken by fans at games around the world. With the world cup coming up in a few months, this is a must read for any real footie fan
