This is not the DVD for a johnny-come-lately fan of the 2000s. It is a high quality production, with authentic original Pathe footage from many of England's matches between 1920 and 1966, linked by narration from Barry Davies. The picture quality is inevitably a little shaky in places, but this is a treasure trove of rarely seen footage, including the Battle of Highbury against Italy in 1934, the 4-0 win in Italy in 1948, the match against Switzerland in the 1954 World Cup and the 4-2 victory in the first ever match against Brazil. And despite the title, not all the matches are England victories: for example, all nine goals from the 6-3 defeat to Hungary are also included. Minor quibbles: three World Cups (1950, 1958 and 1962) are not even mentioned, and there's a little too much time spent on the unofficial wartime games, but overall this is an outstanding DVD of a quality that is all too rarely seen in modern productions.
