A superficial ramble touching upon almost every conceivable topic in philosophy, science, cosmology and religion. Littered with unargued assertions - such as "It does look as though the peculiarly complex phenomenon we know as Life emerges within the universe in order to bolster its self-awareness as it expands and cools" . That's some assertion and nowhere argued or evidence produced.
Many inaccuracies - for example: 'The universe ... contains "more than a billion galaxies" - in fact the observable universe contains 80-100 billion galaxies. He takes the Exodus from Egypt of the Jews as historical truth when in fact it is controversial - most if not all Egyptologists would deny that there is any evidence for this.
He seems to believe in something he calls 'panpsychism' which means that everything is conscious - including rocks - yes rocks.
He is a senior academic at Oxford U and there are three positive recommendations from three professors on the back cover- which is what encouraged me to buy the book. In fact it confirms my suspicion that many academics conspire to support their peers rather than engage in criticism.
