Product Description

Package Quantity: 1 | Colour: A

This radio-controlled socket with controller for use with any domestic appliance. Switch off appliances wasting energy in stand-by to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. The Radio controlled socket is ideal for hard to reach plugs or for people who have restricted mobility as it can be used with any domestic appliance and works with a remote control that can be configured to control up to four different sockets. The remote control does not require direct line-of-sight to operate. It will work even when the socket is hidden behind furniture or in an adjacent room.

Note:

a) We suggest the user does not place sockets close to each other (e.g. in a twin wall outlet, or in an extension lead);

b) Do not plug in anything above 13A (3210W);

c) Do not plug in near to fans or other appliances which emit RF disturbance as this can affect signalling between the controller and socket.

d) The product is not recommended for use with or in the proximity of power tools, industrial equipment, machine tools or for other equipment with powerful motors. The high inrush currents on these devices can cause signal interference.

I spent a lot of time researching remote controlled sockets before purchasing these and I can confirm that they are simply the best on the market. The main reasons for this are the fact that, unlike many others (check before you get caught out), these can handle up to 13A. The second reason is the remote control is compact, has proper solid push buttons and has separate buttons for ON & OFF, which again many others don't have. Thirdly there is an LED on the remote to indicate that you have actually pressed the button and there is an LED on the socket to indicate if it is on. Fourthly there in a manual override button the sockets themselves so if you have left the remote somewhere and you are by the socket and want to switch it off, you can at the touch of a button. Also, you can purchase additional sockets and remote controls if you need them.

This more than lived up to it's reviews to control kitchen LED lighting and I ordered another set immediately to control lighting in the lounge. I've got six wall sockets operating in the kitchen from one handset and four more in the lounge on a second control handset. I'm considering buying more as Christmas presents for my daughter, whose new flat has inconveniently placed power sockets.

Despite the caveat in some reviews (echoed in a telephone call to the supplier) that placing two plugs adjacent to each other might cause interference, I can confirm that you CAN use two of the receivers in adjacent wall sockets, and operate them on different or on the same button / frequency to control electrical items. Both switches operate successfully 99% of the time - occasionally there is some interference (and only one of the two will operate) if the control button is not pressed firmly. Or maybe if the electronic-gremlins fancy a laugh. But a second firm push of the button turns the switches on 9or off).

We've tested the handsets from all over the house (so I could turn downstairs lighting off from upstairs if I wished) and we've tested two controls / handsets likewise to make sure neither interferes with the other.

Top product!!!

These are by far the best remote plugs I've ever used. They may be more bulky than some, but they're far more reliable than others, particularly the first model of 'Bye Bye Standby' for example, which fails for no apparent reason.

They are easy to programme to each switch, and you can have more than one programmed to one switch position if required. Re-programming each socket is really easy if needed. The addition of an on/off switch on the socket is a bonus that some other units don't have.

I also have the Energenie Trailing Gang with Four Radio Controlled Surge Protected Sockets. This has the same remote handset, yet does not interfere with the individual sockets. So if you have this four socket set and the trailing socket you have eight different channels you can switch independently.

It's also worth mentioning that these sockets can handle a maximum current of 13A and a maximum load of 3kW, many other remote sockets only go up to 4A and 1kW.

This is definitely my remote switching socket set of choice - I have gone through over 5 different makes in the past ten years, ...this make wins hands down.

I'd been reviewing remote sockets after seeing a friend's set and being impressed. We don;t use the ceiling lights but have a number of lamps which light our lounge. At bedtime, you have to go around switching them all off sometimes bending down behind the sofa or behind or behind the big TV.

Problem solved !

Here's why you'll want to buy these over the other set I found on Amazon.

1. Price - for 4 sockets there's not much in it, just over £20.
2. Build - compared to my friends these seem much better build quality, the remote is solid and the previous feedback confirms this. Feedback on the other items isn't brilliant.
3. All on / off button. When you want to go to bed, you want to press all off rather than flick through all 4 individually.
4. You can use is with a 4 way extension so when you go to bed you can turn off TV, stereo, lamp, DVD etc and only use 1 socket.
5. Set up - I opened the box and being a boy didn't read the instructions. Actually all you do is plug 1 in then hold down whichever preset button you want and then it will pair itself to that socket. Done. Add the second socket it, hold down button 2 and paired. Then hit the all off button and all lights go out.

I must have saved myself 10 - 15 seconds before going to bed but I like gadgets and good quality so this gets a big fat 5 stars.

I'll def want to expand in the future but I need to check if you can have more than 4 in the house without it getting confused. It's probably in the instructions but like I said, I'm a boy and won't read them!

These sockets aren't the cheapest, but they are much better than others I've had in the past from the DIY superstores. The signal works well at a distance, and through most walls. I have bought 2 sets of these sockets for my father to save him stooping down to switch off sockets.

HOWEVER be sure to test them as soon as you receive them, as Energenie seem to suffer from poor quality control. Set 1 contained one 'lazy' socket that was nowhere near as effective as the other three. You had to hold the remote very close to the socket to make it work. The problem was the same in several locations. The Set 2 had two 'lazy' sockets.

This isn't a massive problem thanks to Amazon's excellent return / replacement policy. Amazon are prepared to send out a replacement set before you return the original, which means you can check you have 4 good sockets before returning the unwanted set. It's a bit of a faff though.
