Product Description

Enemy of Korgan. SF novel;109,000 words (approx 312 pages).

He was prospector, smuggler and spy. And then things became complicated. What can a man of honour do when he finds himself working for both sides?

When Lorne witnesses the ambush of a caravan, he ends up protecting those he would otherwise consider enemies. Taken in by the hated Korgans, honoured as a hero, Lorne begins to work for them even as he plots their destruction. Living a lie is no life worth living and, torn by promises made to both sides, he struggles to find a way out that doesn’t entail the breaking of his word—even to one he has sworn to kill.

5.0 out of 5 stars A most interesting set of characters. 27 April 2012

Boulter develops the most intriguing characters while keeping the action moving along quite interestingly. I wish I was I a better writer myself as this is one author who deserves many well written reviews. However, if I can only think to say that everything this author writes is worth reading that will have to suffice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Military story with some SF elements 16 April 2012
By Bill Schjelderup - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've read almost everything D.A. Boulter has written, and enjoyed this story as well. I bought the book with zero reviews for two reasons. 1) I've enjoyed Boulters other books and would probably like this one. 2) I want Boulter to write more books, and selling stories helps.

Enemy of Korgan is more a story about conflicted people than a traditional SF yarn. Boulters previous book Pelgraff has more SF elements, but I liked the more personal Enemy of Korgan better. Most military SF has the main character as a captain, or leader of some kind. This story is about a lone soldier torn by his past and new obligations.

Lorne's story trickles out throughout the book. In the beginning his motivations are murky and although there are clues we know little about his background and personality. Is Lorne a "good" person or not? How will he deal with his inner demons? During the story it's unclear at time if we are seeing the "Real" Lorne or the Lorne he wants those around him to see. Can he keep his promises? Does he really want to, or is it all an act? What motivates the people around him? A bit of romance brings out more questions.

I won't ruin the story other than to say it has more person to person conflicts than technology vs technology. I did like the fact that a ballistic weapon was used at great advantage in an age where they were considered obsolete.

I'm looking forward to Boulters next story and expect soon we won't get them for only $2.99!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another fine work by D.A. Boulter 15 April 2012

This book is a fine adventure story with great story elements. My hope is that DA Boulter continues to be encouraged and continues to write. He has a terrific grasp of situational plot elements that build powerful stories. If you read the sample, you can get an immediate and accurate sense of whether you will enjoy this book. While some people may anticipate the plot developments, the story is not predictable and DA Boulter put in many thoughtful elements in the backstory of a political war novel with romance among the lead characters. The characters are strong, conflicted, and true to their descriptions as they develop. As an author, DA Boulter is clearly improving. His other works, the Steadfasting The Steadfasting and Courtesan Courtesan are also very good. If DA Boulter continues to write, he will become a very popular and well known author.

The small flaws in this book are very minor and result from the challenges of self-editing. As a reader, I really appreciate it when the sample gives you enough to really understand if you want to buy the book. I recommend this book with 4 stars and if you like the sample, I'm sure you will want the book and any sequels the author may write.
