Biography

In the heavy metal community many writers toss around the monikers “legend” and “genre defying” to describe many bands, but these terms have never been more accurate if they are referring to NEVERMORE, who have perfectly carved out their own unique niche over the past 15 years of dominance. This group’s sound encompasses every element of the metal spectrum and is ... Read more in Amazon's Nevermore Store

First of all, I give the album 4+ stars, and if you are a hard core fan like myself, BUY IT! The productions is what degrades from the album, but the technical complexity and ear splitting compilitaions are still Nevermore quality. The record is currently being remixed by Sneap and will be repackaged with altered cover artwork, two promotional video clips (the title track and "I, Voyager") and a live video of the title track performed at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival this past summer. Hard core fans will be slightly disappointed at the quality of production, but this re-mix due out 21 March 2005 will set the record straight...so to speak. I disagree with the above dude! Musicians unfortunately age, and at a certain point, screaming like a banshee is not always possible. Warrel Dane, the lead singer, shattered ears with a song called Battle Angels on their first Sanctuary album in the 80's. Check that out for some history.

Nevermore claimed that Enemies of Reality was gonig to be much heavier than the amazing Dead Heart In a Dead World, and with the exception of one ballad ('Tomorrow Turned Into Yesterday'), it is. Production had been stripped down to raw basics, with drums and bass standing out as percussion, and guitars with a similar sound to Dead Heart, if slightly deeper.
However, Warrel Dane's vocals, for the most part, fail to impress on Enemies of Reality. In making the songs on this album heavier, Dane does not express his large vocal range as he did on their previous album (with the exception of Tomorrow Turned into Yesterday, and a few other places). The range of song types to be found on Dead Heart is a large part of what made it such a great album, and while the great guitarwork is still there and percussion has become a lot more, er... 'hard-hitting', the majority of the songs themselves did not draw me in. The exceptions being the title track, Enemies of Reality and Seed Awakening.
However, this is by no means a bad album, but with only 9 tracks and less than 40 minutes playing time, you might want to consider the state of your wallet before shelling out for Enemies of Reality, unless you're a real hardcore Nevermore fan.

some say it is faster, others it's slower than preview albuns. I disagree. There are songs trashing everything around, like "seed awakening", and calm songs, like "tomorrow turned into yesterday", but all of them rip your mind. Like ever, the lyrics are hard to decipher, but it is always a pleasure. However, you can just sit and relax feeling the perfect flow of "Never purify", probably the best track of the album.
