Anyone looking for a Greatest Hits CD that properly sums up the classic artistry of Donna Summer is in trouble. Of the many compilations available to buy, all have shortcomings. On the face of it this CD looks like the perfect representation of her UK pop hits. The problem here is in the sound quality and versions inluded. The mastering is uneven. Bass and volume jump up and down all over the place. Another problem is the versions of some of the hits. The idea here was to have single versions so that they sound as they did on the radio. The version of Love To Love You Baby is an entirely different mix. The original mix to be precise. The 4.50 hit version was actually a rerecording and this version was a flop European release from 1975. Could it Be Magic is not the fantastic single version but a US radio edit which takes all of the fun and passion out of it. I Feel Love was an international hit single in it's 5.50 album version whereas here they fade it out before it gets to four minutes. Worst of all is the fact that it does not include Dinner With Gershwin or Theme from THE DEEP. It might sound like I'm being picky but these hits are essential Soul/Disco classics and sound nothing like they should at all. We need a new Donna collection and we need it done right.

Donna is certainly the best voice of the disco era and her songs remain timeless classics. The album showcases her bggest hits and it has turned out to be simply marvellous. The songs vary from dance anthems such as "Hot Stuff", there are more erotic sounds like "Love To Love You Baby" and no big voiced diva would forget the ballads like "MacArthur Park". Donna has such a great persona and her vocal skill is wonderful to the last drop. The other highlights of the album are "I Feel Love", "On the Radio, "Bad Girls", "Melody of Love" and my personal favourite "Loves Unkind". I do have some advice though I have seen the Donna Summer anthology album and I do intend to get it, it might be a better choice as it includes these mentioned hits and many more classics.

As a previous reviewer noted, this disc features the 45rpm single versions of most songs -- though the versions of "Love To Love You Baby," "Could It Be Magic," and "I Feel Love" do not match the original singles.
What this collection really has going for it is the single edit of "I Love You." This song is entirely absent from the U.S. version of this cd. To my knowledge, this disc is the ONLY place you can get the single edit of "I Love You" on cd.
The sound quality on this disc does vary, but I think it's just that the sound quality of the different recordings varies a lot. It's very obvious when you get to the Quincy Jones produced tracks -- he has a way of compressing and mixing that is much different than Giorgio Moroder. On "This Time I Know It's For Real," the mastering is good enough that it shows how "hot" and "thin" Donna's voice was tracked for this song. I actually appreciate that this disc was mastered in such a way as to allow the original recordings to speak for themselves.

Another Donna Summer Compilation. This one includes all her Classic hits. Including 2 new songs "Melody of Love" (Wanna Be Loved) & the breathtaking "Any Way at All". For listeners who are not familiar with Donna Summer, this is the album to get. Recommended!
