Sordid recounting of tour tales by a hanger-on. What's of genuine interest here could be condensed into a few pages and released as a pamphlet. A shame as a different approach by the author might have resulted in a much more enjoyable, entertaining read.

Weak - Don't Bother 12 Jan. 2011
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
After enjoying "Catch a Wave" and "Nearest Faraway Place" I was looking for a more recent Beach Boys fix and got this book for Christmas. The first bad omen is the introduction where the author shares that he has no way of contacting any surviving Beach Boys for an endorsement.

The entire book is about the author (whose job is managing the band's concert brochure sales), and the Beach Boys just happen to be in the background. He begs for relevance throughout and reminds me of Toad from American Graffitti going around pleading to everyone that he knows big John Milner. This book gives no new insight into the Beach Boys themselves or their music, and boringly goes on and on about what the author does separate from the Beach Boys. Who cares!! Brian Wilson is hardly mentioned in the book until the very end. The author begs he is so cool that he even takes credit for Carl Wilson growing his beard.

This book is a weak and self-serving attempt to be relevant. Usually I pass books like this on to friends to get their opinion, but this one went straight into the dumpster. Please don't waste your money. Sorry, I tried.

If You Read One Book Don't Make It This One 14 Jan. 2011
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Since the author of this book had been on tour with the Beach Boys I was expecting interesting "behind the scenes" anecdotes, stories etc... Having managed bands myself I even thought there would be stories to which I could relate. This was hardly the case. Big chunks of the book were not even about The Beach Boys. And when it came to The Beach Boys it was disappointingly a lot of "Here's another time Dennis had sex, got drunk, got a hold of some drugs. This is just another author reducing Dennis to just a few things and barely giving attention to the other bands members

Dull Read 24 Jun. 2012

Very little insight offered by this author. Book is an attempt to try and sell insignificant and often meaningless observations.

Ditto to all other reviews - a waste of time and money. There are far better Beach Boys books available.
Shame on you, Jack Lloyd! 21 Jan. 2015
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

Many of the things written in this book are 100% not true. I knew Jack when he toured with the BB's and am disappointed and saddened to read many of the stories written. Jack, you were a nice guy, but shame on you!
