A-ha largely passed me by. For sure, I'd recognise a single if it came on the radio, but eighties pop has always been a lost world to me. So, the first a-ha album I ever heard was "Foot Of The Mountain". That's right. My first a-ha album was their last. And I rather enjoyed it, as the sophisticated adult pop was not what I expected.
And now, here's a live set from their final ever concert, recorded at the end of their farewell tour, dubbed "Ending On A High Note". It's out on hunnerds of formats, namely standard CD, limited deluxe album (2CD + DVD), standard DVD and Blu-Ray, but this is the bog standard vanilla CD. And it shows what a good live band they were as well.
They actually kick off the show with 'The Sun Always Shines On TV', one of the eighties biggies, but also a sign that they were willing to mix it up a bit, even at the end. But it's the later material that shows how they had developed as songwriters with 'Move To Memphis', 'Analogue' and 'Foot Of The Mountain', the highlights for me. Naturally, all the big hits are present and correct, including their Bond theme and 'Take On Me'.
The sound isn't perfect, especially the percussion, but that's proof that's it an actual live show, and it doesn't detract from a good album.
