Shaun Evans stars as the peerless DC Endeavour Morse in nine unique mysteries of breathtaking complexity. Set against the historic spires of Oxford, and the constantly changing climate of 1960s Britain, these rich, filmic and emotionally epic stories combine dazzling thrills with cerebral puzzlework.

Prospering under the tutelage of DI Fred Thursday (Roger Allam), the two men forge a cast-iron partnership, beginning with a tragic missing person's case in 1965, and continuing across the course of two further series, authored by Russell Lewis. Gathered together for the first time, they form a new, exciting and indispensable chapter for Colin Dexter's fiercely intellectual creation--one of the enduring figures of British cultural iconography.

Series 1: Girl | Fugue | Rocket | Home

Series 2: Trove | Nocturne | Sway | Neverland

I would give this 6 or more stars as it is a brilliant spin off of my old favourite, Morse. Brilliantly cast and seamlessly made showing Oxford back in the the day before I T took centre stage. Real policing. Endeavor and Thursday work brilliant.ly together with a stupid Sargent who can't see beyond the end of his nose. P C Strange who became Morse's Chief Super is a great touch bearing in mind their relationship in Morse. I love this new series in the Morse saga better than Lewis although both are well cast and very good at holding one's attention. Of course the setting is superb within the Spire and colleges in beautiful Oxford. I look forward to this running at least as long as Morse. Recommended.

When Endeavour first appeared I would not watch it as I was an avid John Thaw fan and the thought of another actor taking his place was uncceptable to me. However Endeavour dvds coming out made me take the first of two plunges - Firstly I bought the Lewis Dvds as a gentle introduction to what I called "Morse without John Thaw", and I loved all of episodes. I then bought this dvd set of Endeavour and it has grown on me so much that I now love it too. Shaun Evans is brilliant as the young Morse and has truly captured the spirit of Morse. It is so interesting to see the Morse characteristics starting - the car, the drinks etc. The Pilot film is superb and I am delighted with this set.

well written and very interesting stories from when Morse was a new detective
examining his love of opera and the short lived love affairs
good to see how he developed and aged so quickly!

Yes, I really enjoyed this, having followed the series on TV. it was also cheaper than getting Series 1 and 2 separately, and there wasn't any mention of the pilot in the two separate series of DVD's! I look forward to more series occurring! Subtitles very helpful. Let us hope that more will be produced in the future!

If you loved Morse, then you found yourself persuaded by Lewis, you'll now be utterly captivated. intrigued and beguiled by the youthful but enlightened Endeavour Morse played convincingly by Shaun Evans This leading actor must be the greatest original talent found for many a year - he's so, so convincing. I thought Cumberbatch was good in many of his recent roles but I honestly believe that Evans carries greater authenticity and assurance in this highly watchable series. The sixties setting certainly adds greatly to the series' charm and atmosphere but the wonderful criminal plotting within a largely (but not always) more innocent Oxford age is allied deftly to the brilliantly-written character of the analytical splendour of a youthful Endeavour. I hope this series lasts a long, long time. Superior English crime drama made for TV - buy it and enjoy it.
