Book Description

It had all started on Mars almost six years earlier. The observation was a little thing really. A small scientific oddity that drew attention. But it was the kind of thing the Mars Rover Curiosity might be tasked with having a look at after all.

So why was Jack Culver killed? He was a talented young physicist who was involved in a special project at UC Berkeley, but as far as anyone knew, it wasn't anything special, and certainly Jack had never given any indication his work was at all dangerous. Jack's brother Tony wanted answers, and he was the sort to find them. An ex-military intelligence, ex-CIA operative, Tony came to Berkeley after learning of his brother's death to seek resolution to the matter.

Jack's girlfriend and his long time friend Paul are curious about Jack's death as well. It had been Paul who witnessed the unexplained murder. With Tony leading the effort they begin to find more questions than answers. Why is Ron Swenson, an ex-NASA space pioneer, involved in the campus effort? Jack had never indicated to any of his friends that his work had anything to do with space.

Their involvement becomes more precarious when they are inadvertently present at the time of an attack on the campus facility. Tony and his friends are observed at the scene by government agents and become wanted by Homeland Security as possible agents behind the strike. They are forced to flee Berkeley having learned only that Jack had been working with technology that is years, perhaps decades, ahead of what is thought to exist. They also learn that two of America's greatest adversaries, Russia and China, have become aware of the project as well.

Under presidential direction America has returned to space - in a big way. The effort is almost too aggressive given the state of the economy. Man is preparing a large base on the moon in the near future and an increasing number of scientific missions to the planets. Dr. Ron Swenson also appears to be a significant participant in these activities, suggesting a linkage between the University project and the expanded space effort.

When Tony finally discovers the truth behind the Mars project ENDRUN, he learns that the action is moving beyond Earth -- and even beyond the moon. A race outward into space will be required to preserve the mysterious effort that has been quietly taking place these past few years well beyond the moon's orbit.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Mystery and Space Thriller 26 May 2013
By G Allen - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I recommend EndRun and rate it as a 5 star book. It has mystery, sex , politics, Government Conspiracies, Government space race and in the end space travel. What more could you want in a book. It has great science in that he presented the story based on accurate development and launch times. Blink has gone to great lengths to make this fiction book near reality. Many of the characters reappear and disappear in a very unique way. The book starts out as a mystery but soon leads the reader into the real story and how the Government mislead the people over many years.

This book will hold your interest and as another reviewer stated would make a great movie or TV series. Start this book and you will have difficulty putting it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting What-if Adventure 29 Jan. 2014

I enjoyed this read. The story line integrated a number of interesting characters, technical speculations and a sobering possible geopolitical scenario.

2.0 out of 5 stars Put your goulashes on, it's a hike! 9 Jun. 2015

Man! Was this ever a long, convoluted journey! The writing was well done, but the plot(s) were myriad, unfocused and disjointed. It was like trying to cram 2 or 3 books into 1. Because of this I had a difficult time forming any attachment with any fact I'm still not sure there is a main character, and all things considered what's it matter! Wish the focus would have been the mars story - without the espionage story or the political story, or at least that one of them was dominant! Any way "the spiders are coming" so maybe we'll get a second crack at this.
I've read several of Bob Blinks novels and always find the craftsmanship superb, well written and thought provoking...may have overreached on this one.
5.0 out of 5 stars Bob got lazy at the end 19 July 2015

Bob. Bob. Bob (May I call you Bob?) . I've read a few of your books. This one was pretty good. And for a very long time it shirked no level of detail. If anything, Bob, sometimes you have too much detail. Not to any extent that it is bothersome, though, as it generally adds to the narrative. However, Bob, I was looking forward to a full-throated battle on the Martian landscape at the end. Instead, we got a few skirmishes. Bob, I'm upset. I really wanted more. Why did you lose interest?
