5.0 out of 5 stars A great album to kick back and relax too., 14 Mar 2006

(REAL NAME)
Having recently been introduced to this band, I took the plunge and bought the album. I wasn't disappointed. Mainly instrumental it's the sort of album you should give your full attention to, with great playing from all concerned.

Perhaps the only critisism, and it's purely my own view here, is that the singer is a little drowned by the music on the tracks that have lyrics.

Their new album is out in May 06 (I think) and I have been lucky enough to hear it and.... they just get better.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUSIC FOR THE SOUL., 8 Oct 2004
I was introduced to this band via a Rocket Girl compilation, Peacon, was the song. I have waited until now to get my hands upon their debut album. Was this worth the wait, most definitely.

The Workhouse have their own unique sound which is so uplifting it's untrue. They have so many killer hooks in their music, that there's never a dull moment on this album. Peacon is just swirl of guitars, lifting the song and taking every last sound out of it. Ice Cream Van and John Noakes made The Chameleons stop the heart, but what The Workhouse do, is to push it that much further.

Steelworks, sea and sky, is more your Talk,Talk meets Mogwai, but has it's own identity.

If you think the album is going to be predictable, then Trading Estate comes from a place of it's own, it has a somewhat seemless style. To make matters worse and just as you feel like the trip is over, the title track 'The end of the Pier' has a more jagged edge, topped off with Ian Curtis style vocals, like we have no idea what's next.

What is next is three bonus tracks, Mr Sheen I can imagine must be a live favourite because you can tell when the big sound kicks in the fans must love it.

A must buy for people who Love, Like and have missed bands like The Chameleons,Talk,Talk and more so Kitchens of Distinction.

Bless this band.

4.0 out of 5 stars this charming band. , 22 May 2006
I heard a song called 'Coma' on XFM a couple of weeks ago, it was a broody little number, so I tracked the band down. Well, it was a song with vocals and not on this album, I believe it's on their new one. So I bought this charming album. It's instrumental, now I'm not a fan of vocal-less music and have seen a couple of bands live and tend to fall asleep, but this albums a little gem. It also keeps your attention and doesn't do any frett nooding nonsense. Quite uplifting in parts to. Worth a blast.
