End of Love finds this indie pop-rock band in tip-top form, at turns witty and empathetic. Clem Snide, the musical vehicle for lyricist/singer/songwriter Eef Barzelay, is a group of art-pop revellers with old-school country & western leanings, noted for their dynamic, hard-to-classify records recalling the likes of Neil Young, Tom Waits and Jonathan Richman. The band’s fifth full-length albums, End Of Love utilizes noted musicians and friends Ben Perowsky (credits include the Lounge Lizards, Elysian Fields), Lara Meyerratken (Crooked Fingers), Paul Burch (Lambchop, Paul Burch and the WPA Ballclub), Tony Crow and Ben Martin (Lambchop), amongst the regulars in the Clem Snide troop.

Format:Audio CD
The phrase 'hard to classify' seem to appear in every Clem Snide review, but this should not be used as shorthand for 'inaccesible'. Sounding at times like Lambchop on stronger medication this varied album is catchy and musically relatively conventional. The lyrics reveal wit and intelligence and overall this deserves a wide audience of those interested in alt.americana (or whatever else you care to classify this as).

I came across CS about 6 years ago and have become a total fan.
Witty, touching, clever - so well written and the more you return this band,
the better the songs become.
The more I listen to this album, it may eventually top my favorite "YFM"
and "Something Beautiful" is totally Clem and their best track.
An album that grows on you ... stays with you and
you'll return to ... again and again.
I just hope Eef get's a new band together or back with Pete and keeps CS alive ...

Clem Snide is one of those bands who I've been aware of for years, but not actually listened to any of their stuff..
I saw singer Eef Barzelay support Ben Folds earlier this month, and after a perfectly executed, but totally unfunny heckle (What washing powder do you use) on account of his sparkly white suit (i know, I'm not proud) I really got into the music. He perfectly complemented Ben's style of music - that's probably the best compliment I can give describing his style.
As other reviewers have noted, they are hard to classify, with twinges of country, pop and folk mangled and compressed to produce one of the most beautiful albums this year.
Tiny European Cars is a definate highlight, and German Hip Hop is bizarre.
I love them and all their alt pop ways, and am so glad to have struck gold with a band who's play on words is clever without being too clever, funny without being comedy, and knowing without being smug.
BUY THIS ALBUM, You'll love it!
