4.0 out of 5 stars Intelligent analysis, 30 Nov 2006
By moon tree (UK) - See all my reviews

This was an intelligent and well-written book, and far better than the other "let's guess the ending of Harry Potter" volumes I've read. It's part speculation about how the series will end, and part analysis of other aspects of the novels, such as how they fit in with the British school story tradition. It also includes a very funny spoof of Lord of the Rings where Harry and Neville, tailed by Kreacher, must journey into Voldemordor to destroy the final Horcrux! The guesswork about Harry Potter 7 is based on the plots and revelations of previous books, statements made by JK Rowling in interviews, as well as the traditions of the fantasy genre as a whole.

Definitely worth a read if you're curious about the final Harry Potter installment, and it had me thinking again about Snape.

5.0 out of 5 stars i have not read this book...., 28 Mar 2007
By Rozina Bashir (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
....but im feeling extreamly emotional about it all! "The end of Harry Potter"....woah. its a tad pathetic i know but i grew up with these books, i read my first harry potter aged 10/11, awaiting eagerly my letter from Hogwarts- trying desperatly to find the hidden gateways to Diagon Alley and beyond! I am now 17 and Harry's been with me for nearly 7 YEARS!!!! 7 YEARS- throughout my troublesome teens- which i am still going through by the way- throughout my years at secondary school. They were the first serious novels i read. However, Harry Potter not only captured the imagination of my generation but of EVERY generation! THAT is Harry's magic! that's what the series will be remembered for, for their unifying force. They're going to go down in history as the definite books of today1 Despite that i dont think i could read Phillosophers stone again and enjoy it the way i did then, the language, the ideas- the whole structure of the book is alot simpler in that first novel and you can only relly appriciate it if you read it when you're young and dont know any better, the bookS get better as they go along. But, Rowlings quality of writing (which isnt exactly phenomenal ((yeh i cant spell!!! so what??!)) is'nt important in the least. It's not HOW she's writing its WHAT shes writing, its that whole larger picture she creates which is MUCH MUCH more personal than most other fantasy. I know im not alone when i cried at dumbledore's death, when i laughed out loud at Ron eating the chocies drugged with love potion! i love harry and i am not a freak! Harry and co. have grown up with me and much as i have grown up with them and i for one am DREADING as well as much looking forward to reading the final chapter and saying the last goodbye. I think ill read a chapter a day...to stretch out the experience, make it last that little bit longer...weep!
