I don't remember ever being told about religions in school. I heard about a bunch of them (the major ones) in the media, books and have learnt about them that way, but still I wanted a something concise.
The book is fairly basic, they reduce it all to the bare minimum which is nice as a beginner text, but don't expect to know it all by the time you finish reading it.
I would label it as appropriate for older children / young adults because it's not a difficult piece (although they do get you familiar with non-English words), and it has a lot of pictures. Personally I find it helpful that the book is so visual rather than just plain text.
I think it covers a lot of religions, but beware, Anglicans are not mentioned much (by not much I mean literally a few sentences one has to seek out and read between the lines), while Presbyterians, Baptists and Lutherans are listed as "Nonconformists" (as many others are), which to a certain degree is ok, but as far as I'm concerned the book doesn't give a clear outline of these religions.
To be honest I didn't trust the book completely so I checked a lot of information online and it seemed to be ok, although too vague at times. (The book does list all it's resources though, and so my feeling was completely at fault!)
Despite all the above "bad points" I did enjoy the book and do not regret buying it (as I do with a lot of books, to be honest).

I ordered this book as a contemporary reference book for my son who's in Y7. The book's first chapter is titled 'What is religion?' and gives an impartial definition; 'local religions' and 'religion in society' are amongst the other chapters explaining the different religions. There are also some beautiful illustrations to accompany the text. The internet-link gives you a choice of web sites for further research.
Format:Hardcover
This book clearly describes religious beliefs in a way that is easily understood. The Spiritualist faith was not included however.
