Product Description

Book Description

In a breathtaking grand finale, the world’s mythical pop-up masters unleash monsters and dragons that have prowled countrysides and imaginations for centuries.

Product Description

Lurking behind this intriguing cover, a Kraken grapples with a ship on the high seas; dragons from Eastern and Western traditions spring to life; and a Medusa, snake-hair twisting and hissing, turns the reader to stone. Deeper inside, an ancient, decrepit vampire rises from his coffin; a lycanthrope is caught in the light of the full moon and transforms; and Bigfoot hides behind a tree, ducking his human pursuer. Master paper engineers Matthew Reinhart and Robert Sabuda unfold the legends and lore of cultures around the world to reveal these stunning creatures and many more. Pop-up fans and fantasy lovers will be equally enthralled by the dynamic creatures depicted in this astonishing volume, the climax of the Encyclopedia Mythologica trilogy.

Fantastic! 27 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
Wow! This book is probably the most fantastic pop-up book that I've seen, they are simply incredible! And at the Amazon price of under £11 fantastic value. I would have given it six stars if I could, and that is something that I very rarely feel I want to do. Buy it now!

A gorgeous book, beautifully designed and constructed.

Each double-page spread has a big, complex figure with many moving parts and explanatory text, plus corner pockets that fold out to reveal one or more layers of more creatures and stories. The range is great - from Medusa, Cerebus and other mythical creatures of classical Greece and Rome, through vampires, werewolves, dragons from the West and from Asia, monsters of the deepest oceans, to beasts of ancient Babylon, Aboriginal Australia, the Himalayas, Native American traditions and Norse legends.

The paper architecture is intricate and delicate - strong enough to be opened and closed many times, but needing gentle handling so nothing tears or jams.
