This up to date encyclopedia illustrates over 1500 garden plants, shurbs and trees with stunning clear photographs. Each family or genus has a brief discription including such useful gems as the soil type prefered, whether it will thrive in sun or shade, and if it has a tendency to be invasive. Unlike many plant catalogues those silly symbols which are impossible to decipher are not used.
The plants are arranged alphabetically by the botanical family name, but the common name is also shown and a common names index helps you find plants quickly and easily. It would not be possible to cover every single variety of every plant in one book, but the larger families such as clematis have several pages devoted to the common and the more unusal varieties.
The book is a great pleasure to read, stimulating dreams of filling your own garden with similar beautiful plants. A ideal gift for any gardener.
