The end cover describes this book as the definitive work on the subject. The book is full of inaccuracies and lazy summaries. Errors have come from reference sources which are incorrect and haven't been cross checked. I suggest the only reason it got to the publishing stage was due to the writer's father's name in the forward. If you want a better book, hunt out ernest Carter's "Historical Geography of the Railways of the British Isles" (Cassell & Company)
