About the Author
Sallie Walrond has driven and ridden since she was about nine years old. She is an international carriage driving judge and is the co-founder of the Tandem Club of Great Britain. She has shown harness horses with considerable success for many years and in 1975 she became the first whip to complete a three-day horse driving trial with a tandem. In 2001 she was given the Coachmakers Carriage Driving Award by the Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers of London and was made a life vice-president of the British Driving Society.

This is a great encyclopaedia which is meant to be dipped into when you have a particular question or problem. Sally Walrond has a wealth of knowledge which she shares with us in a factual way, with plenty of line drawings to help.
This book is informative but rather dull. There is little to help you enjoy finding out the answers to some of your problems.. It is easy to find stuff as it is in aphabetical order.

This book is a wealth of information and learning about the colorful history of carriage driving and how to train a young horse to drive. The stories of cabmen in Europe and the fun they must have had are very entertaining. Seriously, the abuses of horses in centuries past are well-described and warn us not to go back to the way of thinking that a horse is just a servant. I enjoyed the wonderful line drawings by the artist.
