Excellent tool for learning and teaching!,

This review is from: The Encyclopaedia of Ancient Egyptian Architecture (Hardcover)
During the years, in my academic teaching activity, together with my students we are used with great profit The Encyclopedia of Egyptian Architecture. The reasons are easy to guess. The author, Dr. Dieter Arnold is an unrivalled expert in the subject, being a leading authority in ancient Egyptian architecture. His field experience and his deep knowledge gathered during the years, the publishing of other basic books relating to the same subject(Building in Egypt, Temples of the Last Pharaohs, etc.) gave him the opportunity to write a very useful reference book for scientists and also to a wider category of English-speaking people. In fact, the present book is in essence an English translation of his Lexikon der ägyptischen Baukunst, 1994, but with many revisions and a number of new entries. Every Egyptologist who wrote a review about this valuable book stresses the very efficient cross-referencing system employed in the Encyclopedia. The entries of the book are arranged alphabetically, taking into account building types(tombs, temples, houses, fortresses, kiosk etc.), building materials, entries for each major sites, technical problems, and abstract topics, such as style, and symbolism. To be more didactic, the Encyclopedia has many black and white photos, plans, reconstructions and explanatory drawings. Highly recommended for people interested in the study of ancient Egyptian civilization.
