Format:Audio CD
Unfortunately Klaus Nomi produced a very limited amount of material in his tragically short career. Although there are a number of Nomi CDs around they are the same material recycled as there were only two studio albums. So, unless you are a collector and want to get every Nomi CD for completeness, this is not the one to go for.

Every track on this CD with the exception of Fanfare can be found on Klaus Nomi Essential, which has 20 tracks. Fanfare is nothing of particular interest as it is rather a pointless instrumental, which rather ignores the fact that it is Nomi's incredible voice which is of interest. There are some notable omissions from this album, the most obvious being the Nomi Song, which is a very catchy little number - the video of this track is seriously weird so worth googling for!

Hence this gets 2 Stars from me which is a reflection of the limited content rather than the incredible talent which Klaus Nomi was.

In 13 songs, you get a snap-shot of Nomi's spirit: classical, deep, secret, intimate, funny, desperate, and so on. But the real Nomi may be impossible to encapsulate in one CD only. Need to hear them all. There's not much, as he left so quickly. But if you do not know KNomi, and are interested by classical, funk, rock, whatever... fun and strange, music that test voices, then this is a good starter. The record includes a good array of songs fairly representative of Nomi's work. Not exhaustive of course (again, you'd need all the records, his music was so rich, and he experimented so much) but a fairly representative record of his work. Which is what a "best-of" should be, shouldn't it?

a good compilation 18 Sep 2007

in 1983 klaus nomi died...this album was released in 1983 and is basically a compilation of his first two album releases with a couple of added tracks

der nussbaum and cant help falling in love are the only two new songs on this album. however this album does contain the live version of total eclipse (as seen and heard in urgh! a music war) which is an amazing version of a great song and easily surpasses the original in my veiw.

personally i would recommend this album for anyone who wanted to start listening to klaus but there is nothing really too new for people who already own his first 2 albums
