Looks pretty good and works well

So why didn't I give it 5 Stars. Basically it's because there are no instructions so you have to figure out for youself how to open up the case and fit the disk.

First callenge - open the case. You have to push plastic circular lugs at each end to remove the caps. You have to push them very hard to the extent that I thought I was doing something wrong at first.

Second challenge - fitting the disk. Looked a bit of a loose fit then I noticed two plastic rectangles. I realised these fit into the disk screw holes and slot into the aluminium casing.

Third challenge - getting it to work. At first the caddy was detected but couldn't see the disk - thought it was faulty. Then I recalled reading somewhere that you must set the disk as MASTER not SLAVE. Did this and it worked fine.

Nothing particularly hard to figure out but some instructions would have been nice.

Once the disk is fitted properly, works very well indeed.

My hard disk case arrived this morning, four days after the order was placed. It came complete with power cord, transformer and USB cable. Interestingly, the 3-pin 240volt plug molded onto the end of the mains cable has a much smaller profile than standard UK mains plugs, which in itself is not a problem, but it does not appear to have a fuse fitted.

It took about 5 minutes to fit my 80GB hard disk from an old desktop pc. On connecting the USB plug to my laptop and turning the power on, the laptop recognised the device but could not see the hard drive within it, even though I had set the hard drive jumper to Master. I pulled the hard drive out and set the jumpers to Slave. Same problem. Pulled the hard drive again and set the jumpers to Cable Select. This time the laptop recognised the HDD and everything is now working well.

I echo what has already been said about the plastic tabs needing quite a lot of force to operate. I would suggest setting the hard drive jumpers to Master first. If this doesn't work then try Slave and Cable Select. Overall the hard disk case appears to be well made for the price and it does what it is supposed to. But the main gripe is the lack of instructions and for this reason only I give the product four stars.

Had this item purchased to be able to access the harddrive on a defunct computer. It works.

However, the finish of the product isn't that good. Something particularly dangerous is the power cable connection is a very loose-fit.

However, as long as you aren't moving it around constantly, it should be alright.

Definitely good value if this is what you need.

Cheap, effective.
There's not too much to say about this enclosure: it does the job. It's a screwdriver-less setup; fitting the drive is easy and takes no time at all. Read more
