Product Description

The Herald

'The structures, together with his unique use of wool, snow, dung, wood and bracken, are stunning yet unobtrusive... the text is equally fascinating'

Product Description

In 1995, the sculptor Andy Goldsworthy approached Cumbria County Council in northwest England with his idea of identifying a significant number of sheepfolds stone enclosures used for assembling, sheltering and washing sheep from old maps and reconstructing them to incorporate artworks or contain artworks. It was a long and fraught process, but by 2006, 35 folds had been completed and these form the core of Enclosure. Reflecting Goldsworthys lifelong interest in the land, its history and its inhabitants, Enclosure is an exciting addition to the artists highly successful series of books.

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing, 18 Mar 2008
By Lorie - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Andy Goldsworthy: Enclosure (Hardcover)
You will not look at rocks, sticks, ice, leaves or water the same way after you read this (or any) of his books. It's mezmerizing to see the way these common objects we would walk right by turn into sublime art. Also worth checking out the DVD "Rivers and Tides". Just wonderful, and the polar opposite of the slick, mass produced art out there today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Living Master Artist, 20 Jun 2010
By dream factory - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Andy Goldsworthy: Enclosure (Hardcover)
We look to our past and admire the great masters of modern art like Van gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Pollack, Moore. How they made us see art in a new context. And we look around and to the future for the next great artist who shall enlighten our vision. He is right here. Right in front of us. A non-destructive consciouness expanding master of art.

This book is a wonder of his works. Beautifully illustrated wonderfully discussed. A great book. Learn what moves this land art genius. Get to know his genuine down to earth nature.

So why dose major fame elude him. Firstly he is not out to sell himself. Hes not part of the madison avenue Guggenheim mentality. Secondly alot of his works are temporary. Actually ment to be digested back into nature. So all we have is a photographic history. So big shot collectors can't buy that yellow ring of leaves or arranged pile of stones on the beach. But you can expeience the beauty through these great books.

A thousand years from now when history looks back upon our time of modern art and modern vision Andy Goldsworthy shall be at the top of an elite group of determined pioneers.
