ENCHANTMENT'S REACH VOLUME 1
........

An extraordinary work of tense, outsider fantasy... Enchantment's Reach is the first volume in a series of six, a fast-paced, intricately-woven saga of conflict, mystery, intrigue, magic and betrayal, set in a world where the fabulous and the unexpected have become the norm.

In this world, anything is possible...

The small kingdom of Enchantment's Reach lies close on the border of the mysterious land of Enchantment from where strange energies seep, borne invisibly on unnatural breezes. Untamed 'magic' resides in the air, in the land itself, and sometimes also deep within the minds of its inhabitants.

It is a time of immense tension. Enchantment's Reach is being torn apart from both inside and out. From the southwest have come the Karai, a brutal warrior race not wholly human, one of whose armies now musters just a few leagues from the border. The Karai are in league, it appears, with mysterious entities who dwell within Enchantment itself, commanding awesomely powerful technologies and commonly held to have the powers of gods. Yet neither the Karai nor these godlike creatures of Enchantment have been known before to interfere directly in the affairs of lesser creatures.

What do they seek from Enchantment's Reach?

Further dangers beset the small kingdom. Perilous internal as well as external conflicts threaten its King, Leth, his beautiful young queen, Issul, and the people of the Reach. Ancient religious factions are resurgent, fanatical cults revive old feuds and rise to threaten the throne, and somewhere deep within Enchantment's Reach itself a mysterious creature appears, an inhabitant of some other dimension, seeming secretly to wield unusual influence over King Leth.

The world is on a knife's edge...

Ahead lie treacherous intrigues both human and otherworldly, and a desperate quest into lands of warring 'gods', into dimensions previously uncontacted, and into the depths of profound technologies and unconscious creation in search of keys to mysteries dark, enigmatic and profound.

Here is fantasy at its finest - a true epic brimming with secrets and revelations, an enquiry deep into mysteries of existence, the nature of experience and knowledge, of belief , desire and treachery, and of jealous 'gods' and scheming humans, all with a narrative power that will hold the reader enthralled from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars A BOOK TO BE SAVOURED 27 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Expect to be enchanted by the story, by the characters, by the fluid narrative that transport you to another world and keep you captivated to the end. Fiction generally holds no fascination for me; this one kept me engrossed until the battery on my iPad went flat and I realised it was dawn.

From the scant appearances in Part I, of Orbelon , the magical character from another world, I suspect this book is parading as fantasy while introducing us to glimpses of another reality which few of us suspect, except in our subconscious, is much closer to the unseen world of the archetypes that give form to our perceived reality.

I am so glad Parts II & III are already available. I want more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Readable but no masterpiece 14 Oct 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a fairly well written fantasy novel but I really cannot understand the rave reviews, as I felt there was nothing outstanding. The main characters are interesting but not deeply emotionally engaging, the plot moves slowly and (yuck) - it has a sex scene (no, not like in Game of Thrones which would have been OK - more like chick lit).

There are really only two main protagonists, although to be fair, the author has given us both a male and female hero/heroine to follow. The other characters in the book are less well drawn, although some of this is due to the fact of the plot which means the characters have to be more mysterious. There is a reasonable multi-layered plot (which I won't go into as there is no point in spoiling it) - it moves fairly slowly as some of it is about political intrigue but there are other faster moving parts to keep your interest.

I did enjoy this book and I bought the next instalment but it is not some special masterpiece. My only other comment would be that you really do not get a lot of book for your money - each book is quite short for a fantasy epic.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredibly Unique Fantasy World 17 Sep 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Reading the first installment of Martin Ash's "Enchantment's Reach" is spell bounding. Martin Ash has created a fantasy world that is reminiscence of the writings of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Not only in the quality and grace of writing but in the esoteric meanings throughout the story.

This world of Martin Ash is a fragile one, one that at times seems to mirror our own mortality. Underlying throughout the plot, you get a sense of the age old questions being asked, such as who are we, where did we can from, and more importantly, where do we go. I see the mysteries being addressed making the story even more, should I say, enchanting.

The use of language is masterful in creating characters that seem to be real. There is a sense of frailty woven into the storyline that adds a degree of realism that only a true wordsmith can achieve.

There is a depth and richness in the layers and texture of the characters that seem as if you have known them your entire life, aka, L. Frank Baum's Wizard of Oz. The characters are that real.

Somewhat paradoxical, I know, that in order to create a believable fantasy world such as "Enchantment's Reach," the characters need to be relatable. It's easy connect to Leth and Issul with their flaws, shortcomings, scheming, desires and fears. The story is one where becoming immersed is unavoidable.

If you are searching for a great read with a deeper meaning that will leave you in contemplative thought, then this is the book for you. I thoroughly enjoy it and can recommend the works of Martin Ash.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful read 3 Sep 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Absolutely loved it. I was recommended this book by a friend and wasn't sure if it was going to be my cup of tea. I was so surprised to find it engrossing and the sort of storytelling I love. Having just read Neil Gaiman's latest book I thought this would be a disappointment but it absolutely was not! Love the female heroine and the intrigue. Looking forward to reading the next one! DB
