Book Description

31 Jan 2013
Traditionally, the Witch's arsenal of magical power has always included the ability to influence others from a distance, blessing, cursing and placing a glamour or the Evil Eye on someone in order to reward, punish or control them in some way. Many of these techniques have been lost, though we can see their descendants in the techniques of mesmerism, faith healing and stage hypnotism.

As part of his exploration of Visceral Magick, Author and Witch Peter Paddon has rediscovered techniques and exercises that enable the practitioner to use gestures, gaze and energy connections to influence others from across a room, or in some cases around the world.

In this book, Peter describes the underlying theories and philosophies (drawing on the mysteries of Ancient Egypt, Pre-Christian Celtic Wales and medieval Christian Mysticism), and lays out a series of techniques and the exercises that develop the required skills to use them, on order to heal, curse, entrance, bless, and create illusions and other subtle influences in others to manipulate their thoughts and actions. He includes a discussion of the ethical ramifications of these techniques, as well as practical applications in ritual, spell-crafting and daily life.

Whether it is the "Evil Eye", "Jedi mind-tricks" or "defense against the Dark Arts", these techniques have been the mainstay of myth, legend and fantasy for millenia, but their place in our worldview stems from real magical tools wielded by our ancestors.

"Too often, the modern witchcraft movement has focused its attention on being an "acceptable" practice in a modern world. It has often sacrificed much of its unique contributions upon the altar of religion. Albeit, this aspect of our resurgence heeded a deep call and the initial sacrifice had wisdom and purpose. But as they say "how many stripes can a zebra loose before it is no longer a zebra?" In the case of the Craft, witches do witchcraft, and magic is at the heart of our soul; and we must return our "stripes". It is time for witches to be witches... and enchantment is one of the major stripes on the metaphorical zebra of witchery. Thank you Peter for bringing all of us to that state of spirit that wields the power of change through the arts of enchantment. This practice helps to give us back one of our most legendary attributes. My advice is that readers of this book apply the lore and techniques offered. It invites witches to wield the power of change upon self, the world and our universe. Now let's cast enchantment for a better life and a better world. It all starts in the mirror."

This book is laugh out loud funny, the guy is a genius. A really good book, and would recommend to any level. I like the way the author speaks to every level, and puts things into perspective, the guidlines are easy to follow, but it does take practice, no quick fixes here, sorry!! When is the next one coming out??

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant 11 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I just love this book and the author is now on my favourite list. He writes in a down to earth matter of fact way- he is very funny and makes reading this fun. It is a very empowering little book - although being a witch and a healer i can do most of this- its just nice to have a boost now and then.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchantingly Useful and Timely 9 May 2013
By Garnet - Published on Amazon.com
This book may only be about 130 pgs, but it is exceedingly packed with useful information, exercises, and techniques aimed to work with and improve the practice of just about any magickal path. The author presents the material in an honest, clear, and unflinching manner, and includes stories and descriptions of his own experiences of learning how to manipulate the world around him and within him, including both successes and mistakes. (I loved the story about how to get a bartender's attention in order to get your order in before last call.)

Ethics are, of course, discussed. I mean, this IS a book about manipulation...which will always be a touchy subject. I may not see eye-to-eye on everything that the author talks about, but I do agree with his viewpoints when it comes to using these techniques to alter and improve your own life and how you interact with others and the world. Lasting change must start within.

I also agree with the book that people are already always trying to manipulate you (knowingly or unknowingly), whether their intention is to sell you something--like a new car or a new kind of cereal--or to make you believe what they believe or convince you that their advice is the best. Whether they do so with the honest intent of helping you or just to make a buck, we are bombarded with others trying to make us do what they want us to do or think what they want us to think. The book teaches how to figure out your own greatest needs, as opposed to wants, and how to fulfill them. It also teaches how to sense and protect yourself against outside manipulation, especially that of ill intent.

Techniques for creating trance states are explained (including photos), some of which you can do alone and some with others. The book then goes on to give techniques for influencing yourself and others using gestures (such as hand gestures and using them to project energy), visual interaction (both good and bad, such as the infamous Evil Eye), physical touch (including, thankfully, the risks of such direct contact with people you don't know),and other forms that involve less direct interaction.

Glamouring is an ancient Witch tool, one that has little been explored as late. This book cracks that door open again, serving as a means to take back one of the powers that Witches were always meant to have (and were long accused of having, go figure). Even if you have issues with using what you learn here to manipulate others, you can certainly use it to "glamour" your own self into being who you need to be, to get rid of the overlay put upon you by others, no matter how well-meaning they might have been. I mean, who doesn't have issues? Who couldn't stand to get in touch with their highest (god)self a bit more?

Highly recommended. Highly useful. If you truly seek to create change in the world, to improve your life and the lives of others, then this is definitely a book you need. I'd say it was going to have pride of place on my bookshelf, but most likely it will end up being used too much to stay in one place for very long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Book. 28 May 2013
By W. Erik Riker - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have a long-time interest in the occult and have been practicing martial arts for over twenty years. In my Aikido class we have been working with techniques that may be considered 'mental', 'spiritual', 'influencial'...not what are typically thought of as martial arts (at least in this country...as far as I know!). So I bought this book, thinking the author could shed further light on the subject, or at least lend another perspective. I am reading it through for the third time, and have begun taking notes and incorporating the practices. This stuff is great. It enhances what I've been doing and expands upon those practices, and offers many other interesting possibilities. One techniques in particular, after only two or three days, has taken my qigong practice to new, unexpected heights. Once I am comfortable with this material, I will buy the author's book 'Visceral Magick' and explore that. It may be a while. There is a lot of stuff in this relatively short book. Buy it and have fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars SO Good ! 15 Mar 2013
By P. Weaver - Published on Amazon.com
I bought this book for myself with a "just to see" attitude. After reading for about 3 hours and practicing a lesson written early in the book, I placed an order for 2 more books for my daughters. I also bought the kindle version for myself so I can highlight and bookmark to my hearts delight. My Grandchildren will be given their own copy of this book in a few years. They will have access to techniques that are taught easily, correctly and not half taught lessons that are often "shared" by other writers.
The book is layed out with many of Mr. Paddon's personal experiences then reasons for the techniques he is using. I like that morals and ethics are well discussed. Next comes the "how to" in a concise step by step lesson with sometime live, out in public, experiments to do. He does not leave out the expected and warnings about unexpected results that you might come across. Based on each step in your education he proceeds to the next lesson, with more practical instructions, building your skills with helpful technique photos and encouragements.
Both of my daughters and I are excited about what we are learning, practicing and telling friends about the book.
I am asking for more books, please, Sir.

This details practical, step by step exercises to use in developing those "other" muscles. While making a logical case for ethical applications, it veers away from the Pablum of so much modern Wicca thought.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting techniques 2 July 2013

This is exactly what I wanted to know and when I needed to know it. I'm not so sure everyone will care for the writing style or the images, but they could be useful...or they could just be filler <smile>. Either way, IMHO in this type of material its the content that's important not how its delivered.
I have tried some of these techniques, so work right away and some take practice. I suppose it depends on the individual.
