5.0 out of 5 stars The best of Stevie Nicks plus eleven rarities for her fans, 6 May 2004

When the new and improved Fleetwood Mac emerged in 1975 to become the hotest group on the face of the planet I always liked the Stevie Nicks songs best. Even before the Welsh Witch started producing solo albums I went back and tracked down the Buckingham-Nicks album with the infamous cover. I kept buying Fleetwood Mac albums just for her songs, so of course I was going to pick up "Enchanted: The Works of Stevie Nicks" when the boxed set came out in 1998 because of the B-Sides and other rareities includes. But I have to admit, part of me really wished there was just a one disc version of all the "bonus" material. Of course, now I can make that single CD myself, so I no longer have that to complain about. Besides, you have to admit that having these three discs in your car is better than having her first four albums.

I find it hard to believe that many people picked up "Enchanted" who did not already own the original albums with "Stand Back," "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "Beauty and the Beast," and the rest of her solo hits. Of the extras I most appreciate the live version of "Edge of Seventeen" from her first televized solo concert (I think that was the last 45 single I ever bought) and the piano version of "Rhiannon," the one nod towards her work with Fleetwood Mac. The extended rock mix of "I Can't Wait" is okay and I rather like the unreleased demo of "Sweet Girl." Also included are the non-LP B-Sides "Garbo," "One More Big Time Rock and Roll Star," and "Thousand Days," an unreleased live performance of "Gold and Braid," unreleased demos of "Twisted" and "It's Late," and an unrleased studio track "Reconsider Me." That is eleven tracks most of which will be "new" for fans of Stephanie Lynn Nicks out of 46, which is not a bad percentage all things considered, and out of those eleven most of them are worth having.

5.0 out of 5 stars The songs Stevie thinks you need to hear, 6 May 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Enchanted (Audio CD)
Stevie Nicks is often considered the lead singer in Fleetwood Mac, but this 3CD box set proves she is more than "just a singer."
Nicks released these three marvellous discs in 1998 with almost 35 years' songwriting experience and she has been a prolific songwriter since she wrote her first song aged sixteen. The songs here show her incredible songwriting, her remarkable, strong voice, and her impeccable sense of melody and lyric.
Stevie Nicks' first solo album, the beautiful 'Bella Donna' (1981), is represented by such cuts as the classic "After the Glitter Fades" and the haunting "Kind of Woman," and we are also treated to a gloriously rocking live version of "Edge of Seventeen."
1983's 'The Wild Heart' is represented by songs of a synth-pop/rock nature, and the synthesisers weaken some of these songs, though "The Wild Heart" and "Enchanted" are two of Nicks' best compositions.
'Rock a Little' (1985) was an underrated album, as "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You" will prove, as was 'The Other Side of the Mirror' (1989), which features one of Nicks' all-time best compositions, the extraordinarily excellent "Rooms on Fire."
'Street Angel' (1994), another largely ignored work, is represented here by a number of songs, and even the retrospective album 'Timespace' (1991) has some of its new songs included here.
'Enchanted: The Works of Stevie Nicks' includes other rarities such as b-sides ("Garbo" is a fine tune), and live versions, as well as "Long Distance Winner" from the album 'Buckingham Nicks' (1973), recorded with former beau and member of Fleetwood Mac Lindsey Buckingham. The set also includes hits, duets, album tracks, and demo versions, as well as soundtrack songs and a new version of "Rhiannon" recorded with Nicks on piano.
'Enchanted', which also features an extensive booklet of photographs and text as well as album/single cover images and lyrics, is a must for any fan of real music, but does not reveal to a full extent the talent of Stevie Nicks (only "Rhiannon" from her days in Fleetwood Mac is included, and a reissued edition of the box set might benefit from including songs from her best solo work, 2001's 'Trouble in Shangri-La').
But other than that, 'Enchanted' is a fine tribute to Stevie Nicks and since she selected the songs for inclusion, it gives you an idea as to which songs Stevie thinks you need to hear.

stevie is without doubt an amazing singer..with a voice you can tell a hundred miles away even if the person listening has headphones on! she is also a brilliant songwriter with fantastic lyrics...i always think stevie is like a painting by numbers set..she provides the canvas and the colours but you paint it how you see it...oo-er is thats deep!!

this collection is brilliant as well as a loads stuff of the albums...there is a load of other stuff not available on them...

disc one has "garbo" a great track that was a b side..it could have made the album!

disc two has a live version of "edge of seventeen" a clever inclusion...and makes you want a full album of live recordings and the orginal 12" version of "i cant wait" is brilliant!

disc three is where you get loads of hard to find stuff that arent on the solo albums....some b sides..some live recordings..some demos...unreleased tracks..and songs from soundtracks/other peoples albums...they are all wonderful and not fillers by any measure!!!

a stunning collection if you are new to miss nicks and to die hard fans!

i love it and im sure you will!!!

also the packaging is beautiful..some lovely photos and words from stevie.and you know she means ever word..like her songs!
