The DVD version must present the best value in disc encyclopedia. It is easy to access and its search feature is fast and presents the best possible range of information on the chosen subject. Its ability to collate information is the best that I have seen and will be invaluable to young people facing GCSE preparation. However, thsi DVD is not just for young people. Adults will find it a very useful source of information for any project that they may be undertaking. At the very least, it is a source of pleasure and entertainment. The links to the Internet ensure that where information is too limited for a particular purpose, the you are presented with the option to serach further sites. Overall, a very pleasing and educational event. Well done, Encarta 2001.

What an absolutely outstanding package for kids. The content is very good, the web links are even better and the Researcher for storage, indexing and recall is absolutely fantastic - forget the kids, even I use it!!!

Expecting a fantastic product can often lead to disappointment. In this case, having had Encarta in most of its incarnations, I am disappointed. Although the basic functions that one would expect from Encarta are all there, plus some DVD only goodies, I now wish I'd stuck to the CD version. The sound and video clips just refuse to work with my Yamaha Sound Card (SW1000xg and DS2416). Midi clips are fine, but any trace of wav/avi and it sounds like an untuned radio. There is normally no problem with such files. There has never beena problem with the CD version so why with the DVD? Video DVDs play fine!

It has to be said that the lack of sound clips and no music in the mind maze totally ruins an otherwise excellent product. Compatibility should surely be an over-riding consideration for a product of this type. Badly done Microsoft!
