En Gard - Reflections of Rural France, 18 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: En Gard: Reflections of Rural France (Paperback)
As an avid reader of all things French, I was very excited to see a new book on the market.Having half an hour to spare when I got home, I made myself comfortable and thought I would have a quick look at the first few pages.
Three hours later I had to tear myself away to collect my husband from work!
This book is about a couple who live in a small village in the Gard region of France.
It starts with them seeing the house on the internet, the purchase and finally moving in. It then goes on to tell of their family, friends and neighbours.
It tells of the ronovation work - but it is not a DIY book.
It tells of the food - but it is not a cook book.
It is in fact a beautifully written, witty and poignant book about a couple who take a chance and live their dream.
It touches every emotion - Excitement, Sadness, Anger and Joy to name but a few.
Alistair Scott and Sandy Thompson seem to have found a unique style of writing that captures the imagination and really makes you feel as though you were there with them.

I love books about France , as it is a country i visit often . The whole moving to France , and the ups and downs of everyday life hold such an interest to me . This book keeps you gripped from the start , written with a passion for their new life , very descriptive , whether its about food , or diy or just what may be mundane tasks , this lovely book will have you hooked . I read it in a couple of days , and was so sad to get to the end , now thats a sign of a good read !
