This remote shows in device manager as HID Keyboard and several other HID devices. In Windows Media Centre (I'm using Windows 7 RC1) all buttons work as supposed. If you use other applications you can bind keypress of remote button to action, but only some of remote buttons generate keyboard press event. I was able to make all buttons fully working using 'autohotkey' software (with Micha's HID device support DLL). So I would recommend this remote if you're planning to use it on windows. Sadly on linux it does not work as supposed, I was able to pick up more than half of a buttons using lirc and linux input layer configuration. But events (by linux and lirc, on windows everything works perfectly) are generated only on button release, so no smooth volume up/down functions for your lirc enabled software. Hope this helps someone looking to buy it for MythTV, not recommended for Linux.

Ive been browsing for some time for a media centre remote and found surprisingly few options that seemed up to scratch for a reasonable price. Then found this remote and its truly fantastic, quick and responsive and since its wireless, not infrared, great reception anywhere, have had it operating at around 8 metres.

I can confirm that it works with windows 7 media centre also, i'm running the windows7 rc and the remote works great with all the functions of media centre. Ive also tried using it for windows media player, since the two use the same base processes it also works, for example you can pause/play and select songs/videos etc. However functionality is a little more limited, not due to the remote but rather the interface, media player just isnt designed to be used with a remote. So while you can navigate around using it, play/pause, adjust volume etc, not all functions can be accessed with the remote.

But for windows media centre this is a fantastic device and well worth it for the (comparatively very low) price!

I'm very pleased with this remote control, it has completely changed my home cinema experience. My setup is with a projector so the PC is behind me. Previously I was using a generic IR remote which meant pointing the remote over my shoulder and struggling to make sure I had line of sight. The Emprex wireless controller is a joy to use as it works wherever I point it! A previous review said the buttons are the 'clicky' type (technically metal dome switches) which is true but to my personal taste they are responsive and I prefer this to the imprecise, rubbery type. I have no problems with range, the signal passes 5m, through a brick wall, through a piano and then through the computer housing with no problem!

All the controls work as expected either for single presses, or sustained hold (like for changing the volume) and because the remote is specifically designed for Media Center all the MC shortcuts are there and all the buttons feel like they are 'in the right place'. The ability to launch Media Center and to suspend/start the whole PC with the remote are added bonuses.

Finally this is a driverless solution, which is great - no dodgy 3rd party drivers or software to install. The device is recognised as a keyboard and worked fine on my Vista x64 system.

Remote is rubbish. It works sometimes and then has a terrible lag. Much worse than an IR remote don't buy it.
