The strength of this book is the pragmatic advice that it provides, covering all aspects of the employment relationship. It covers not just the law that is relevant, but all the steps that you need to take to ensure effective people management.

The weakness of the book is the amount of space devoted to advertising products and services, this is not helpful to the reader.

The main focus of the book is the smaller/medium sized organisation. If you are an experienced HR practitioner looking for more depth try, the legal practice guide on employment law. This is written for lawyers, but is very useful, it is little used by those in HR. I came across it while working as an HR Director for a major law firm. It is updated annually and is good value for money.

Offended! 20 Aug 2008
Format:Paperback
I have bought this book as I needed an up to date HR & Law resource.... It has arrived and some of the content is good with some practical tips. A couple of points of upcoming law points are missing which I found disapointing...

I am extremely offended by the extraordinary amount of advertisments in the main body of the book selling services and products related to the chapter that the advert is in. THis is my first experience of adverts within a text book. It obstructs the reading and they are in your face! I would have expected the book to be a subsidised price considering they have sold so much advertising space inside the book!! However it is full price..

Overall I'm disappointed and offended by this book.
