Blackhawk 17 Nov 2009
I purchased this video for its testamonials on the Malayan Emergency. I was looking for something to show my class in modern military history on that conflict and this filled the bill. I have seen better but would rate it as very solid and factual. The class was not bored.

The Jungle Beat: Fighting Terrorists in MalayaThe War of the Running Dogs: Malaya 1948-1960 (Cassell Military Paperbacks)The Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation: The Commonwealth's Wars 1948-1966Confrontation, the War with Indonesia 1962-1966The Virgin Soldiers (Virgin Soldiers Trilogy 1)

What it says on the back of the box.

As the Union Jack finally descended on former colonies all over the world after the second world war, communist, nationalist and religious guerrilla forces saw their chance. The British Empire was leaving - and creating a dangerous power vacuum in its place. The war to succeed the British had begun ....
Empire Warriors focuses on Four key wars fought at the end of empire. It features original archive footage together with dramatic reconstructions of key events, while former soldiers, terrorists, politicians and intelligence specialists offer vivid accounts of the last wars of empire...

It then goes on to give you a brief run down of what is contained in each episode.
The episodes cover Kenya - fighting the Mao. Aden - mad mich and his tribal law, Malaya - the intelligence war and Palestine - the Jewish war.

My review.
I found out about this DVD set after reading the Jungle Beat by Roy FOLLOWS an Ex Malayan Police officer, who is interviewed in this series.

The archive footage and narration is what you would expect from a BBC production along with snippets of interviews to help tell the storey for each theatre, thankfully the full interviews are included as bonus features.

This is an excellent series but it unfortunately only touches on the 4 conflicts which in them selves could eaiserly be 4 hours long each on their own, they could have also covered other topics such as Cyprus and Libya.
