Good-ish, but with a few flaws., 8 Nov 2004
This does, as other people have probably said, quite similar to the Diablo games. However, it is NOT similar enough to be called a "Diablo Clone." Basically, you control 7 guy, (up to 4 at a time,) and, instead of being one over powered guy, you're 4 fairly powerful guys. I can put it better than that, but wont :). Anyway, instead of a "town," you have a castle, and, in that castle, you have a boss, (and by that I mean YOUR boss, not an enemy.) There is, at any time, the option to teleport any of your people, (though not all of them at once,) back to the "shrine room" where they regenerate health and ki, (mana.) There are 7 characters, each a different type. You've got some warrior types, one guy who is specifically a wizard, and some that cross over the boundries, and do a bit of everything. That sounds as if it wouldn't work out right, but it does. You can, at any time, (after you've found them, at the start,) access a blacksmith, who can customise things, (like on divine divinity, and diablo, but a bit more interesting,) repair things, make things, etc. You give him non magical stuff, and he makes new stuff for you. There's a priest who can identify things, purify,(uncurse) things, offer things to gods in exchange for spell point gain, (a WONDERFULL feature.) These people, who can both be accessed though the inventory menue, no matter where you are, do NOT sell things to you: They only give them, take them, etc. There is money on the game, and you can pick it up from monsters, containers, and other things, but the "shop" people don't give it to you. You can only give it to them. People have said that this isn't a good thing, but I rather like it. One particularly vexing flaw is the absence of a world map, and decent quest log. You might find yourself at a loose end, quite often. (Or it might just be me, as I've not got TOO far in the game yet.) Sorry, I've not put much effort into this, but, to sum up: if you find this is a cheap price, then do buy it; it's worth a few quid, and a look.
