Cossacks, despite being a few years old and with a sequel hot on it's heels, is still a mighty impressive game. The sheer volume of units you can field makes this a perfect game for big engagements. Unfortunately, the controls and A.I for your units makes it difficult to coordinate your units in an itricate attack, reducing your tactical options, with infantry at least, to little more than a direct charge with all you've got. this can be spiced up with cavalry and artillery, but tey don't really come into their own until their in big, expensive groups.
The graphics, for the time it was released were pretty good, and they still hold up now, making your units look impressive when they're in their mighty formations. The terrain looks a bit dated, but it doesn't make too much of a difference. Sound is a bit bog standard in that the huge sounds you hear on a battle field aren't really present. In their place are weak and repetitive soundbytes that tend to drag.
Overall, Cossacks is definitely worth picking up at a budget price, but if you've got the money to spend n a game like this, wait for Cossacks 2.

An exellent game, full of noise, action, realism, and fighting.
Realistic gameplay of this RTS makes it one of the best. Can't wait for Cossaks 2. Play this game multiplayer and you'll have lots of fun. But for now i must go back to war!
