Jet Li can be as bad-ass as he wants, it doesn't save this film which gets worse the longer it goes on. It use of CG is both terrible and makes this very traditional Chinese folkloric fantasy feel like an anime. Then there's the romance, which isn't sympathetic and understandable at all, it's manipulative and it's the source of the final act which is the source of the film degrading from a decent 4 star review to this two star one. This is a manipulative, stupid, awful CG led martial arts epic that is as hollow as it is ambitious. This film is the sort of Asian piece that is easy to sell to a global audience; I don't believe for a second that this deserves coverage more than some of the lost classics that never see light of day here in the UK. Its stunt casting with Jet Li on board, as without him this film would be nothing. Jet Li, why don't you make good films anymore?
