Emperor are in my opinion the best band in the world, even though they now cease to exist. They claimed themselves to be a "better" studio band- well- based on this CD, they are also an awesome live band!
This live recoring starts with the ferocious Curse you all Men which is double bass orientated, thrashing guitar madness. No intensity is lost in the live version- it may even be slightly faster than on the IX Equilibrium album!(Oh yes- it's possible!) This intensity continues throughout the CD and Emperor provide a good mixture of songs- old and new. They are all stunningly played tracks and so it's difficult to pick favourites. I personally like 'I am the Black Wizards' and 'With Strength I Burn' as they mix brutality with pure beauty! Ishahn had an incredible night on vocals- he simply doesn't put a note wrong! He has the perfect shriek too- it's strange how he has decided to go all classical with Peccatum- a highly inferior band to Emperor and even Zyklon.
An extra special mention has to go to one of the more under-appreciated members of the band, Trym. His drumming is quite simply STUNNING live- he drives the band along with his intense and insanely fast double bass work, (it has to be quicker than a machine gun!) he goes round the kit quicker than any other drummer and can change the tempo in a split second- congratulations Trym! You are my drumming god!
Yes everyone this has to be the best live performance on CD that you can buy- the production is surprisingly very good, the performance is untouchable and the price is good value aswell!
10/10, A*, 5 stars, 100%- however u describe perfect as- this CD is it!

Almost a masterwork. 28 Aug. 2005

Emperor is one of the few band whose music is categorized under "Black Metal" yet do not suffer from immature dedication to a scene which basically involves trying to seem as evil as you can. Instead of practicing satanism, they practiced with their instruments. And it shows.

Bands often suffer sound degradation even a few make mistakes when playing live. Emperor manages to keep these factors at a minimum somehow, while although not up the ungodly high quality of a live Metallica recording, approaches it several times.

"Curse You All Men!" opens things here, a furious track which showcases the two guitarists' (Sammoth and Ihshan I believe) skills - instead of furious churning, they blast out In Flames-style sounds against a backdrop of Trym stomping on his drum pedals at almost the same speed he's hitting the drums on top. There are a few breaks in the song's relentless charge almost as if the listener is being given a chance to catch their breath before being pummeled again. So far so good. Onward to track 2.

"Thus Spake the Nightspirit" is one of my personal favorite songs from any band. But it is one song which does not sound quite as good as its original studio recording. Ihshan's harsh screams don't sound quite as menacing and fitting as his snarl on the studio version. But it's still a damn good song.

Next up, "I Am the Black Wizards." Again, a blend of aggression with a downright majestic-sounding chorus. Emperor is indeed most worthy of their band name.

"An Elegy of Icaros" I'm a bit undecided on this one. I don't really like how it begins and ends, because Ihshan puts a bit too much of his hoarse growl into what should be his clean vocals. One of few things which prevent me from awarding this five stars.

"With Strength I Burn" Holy crap. This track simply had me in awe, its epic feel and perfectly-chosen keyboard sounds sucked me in. Don't care much for the spoken-word part but that's not stopping this juggernaut. Ihshan gets his clean vocals spot-on. Give him the metal salute for this one.

"Sworn" Return to death screams for this one, it's all about aggression. Brilliant guitar melodies.

"Night of the Graveless Souls" The keyboard parts fit surprising well with this considering you'd think they'd be more suited for a techno *cough* song *cough* *cough*. A most commendable achievement.

"Inno a Satana" The weakest of the songs in my opinion. Ihshan sounds just a bit too much like an opera signer in here.

"Ye Entrancemperium" They saved the best for last. Starts out with bone-crunching fury not unlike "Sworn" and then becomes an epic. Ihshan's clean vocals here are his best on the CD, and I think better than on the original studio version. Add some good more controlled drums and excellent-as-usual guitars and you've got what might be the best track on the CD.

Bottom line:

If you're a metal fan in general, you should at least have heard of Emperor. While I don't recommend this be the first CD of theirs to get, it's one anyone who likes the group should know about. Satansim not included. They're more mature than that.

Emperor's First Official Live Album 22 Jun. 2000
By A Customer - Published on
Format: Audio CD
Many bootlegged Live Emperor albums have been released over the years, but none of them has ever gotten close to the quality of the Emperial Live Ceremony. The sound quality is great, and fully demonstrates the capacity of the band. Indeed one can truely the feel the power that Emperor unleashes when they play live. The track list is amazing and contains tracks from almost every album. Just listen to "Ye Entranceperium" or "I Am the Black Wizards" and you'll understand why I think this is, by far, the best album the Norwegien band has ever released.

Great sound, great shots, great video!!!!! 28 Mar. 2001

This is what a video must be!!! The shots taken at the musicians were perfect, you can even see how solos are played with closeup. Every musician had a share of time so you'll not be disgusted of seen only the singer staring at you the entire video (as Danni from Cradle of Filth). The sound is perfect, and no mistakes were commited by Emperor, they have to be perfectionists.
This is a real video, not another video!!!
