The Emmay Care Safety Gate is ideal for stairs and doorways. The Safety Gate features a double locking mechanism yet is easy for an adult to use in a one handed operation. The Safety Gate can be opened either way and has a swing shut mechanism although we do recommend you double check the Gate is locked after closing. The Safety Gate is presssure mounted for easy installation and we recommend the use of the additional mounting cups if fitted to the stairs. This Gate has the additional benefit of being 1 metre tall, this feature allows you to easily open the gate when descending the stairs without excessive bending over to reach the mechanism, perfect when carrying small children in your arms.

I needed this product to prevent the little one climbing up the stairs. The problem for me was the design of the banister post at the very bottom of the step - it starts as cylindrical from the ground and later (around 95cm high) it becomes cuboidal shaped. This means most of the pressure-fit gates on the market wouldn't fit the slot, however this was perfect. The additional height also means when coming down the stairs you don't have to bend down as much to open it.
Only 4* because I felt the button to open it could've been designed better - you got to slide the button and pull the gate up out of the bottom rail to open it. It can open both ways, but of course at the bottom of the stairs I can only open one way (away from stairs). Also, if you fit it actually on the bottom (or even top) step, bear in mind that the bottom rail stays put so you have to step over it, can be a trip hazard when going down stairs.
All in all, it is a very useful and handy product. The pressure-fit system works fantastically (very secure, some very tough rattling from the tot and it doesn't budge at all) and the build quality is excellent. Would definitely recommend this, it could even be used to for pets (the extra height prevents them from jumping over).
