Amazon.co.uk Review

Following hot on the heels of the first sequel, Emmanuelle 3 (originally released as Goodbye Emmanuelle) finds our heroine with the hearty sexual appetite tiring of the amoral lifestyle she leads with her husband. This time, the action shifts to the Seychelles and Emmanuelle's husband turns out to be a nasty piece of work, as at the mercy of the green-eyed monster as everybody else. Ironically, the erotic sequences which gave the first two films their notoriety are in much shorter supply here; after an early threesome, the most memorable is a beach scene stolen straight from From Here to Eternity, although it's a damn sight less erotic than the Burt Lancaster/Deborah Kerr original. But the underlying story of a dying marriage gives the picture a stronger narrative structure than either of its predecessors. Sylvia Kristel now looks a touch bored by a role which has capitalised on her ability to convey wide-eyed wonder at the constant discovery of new sexual experiences. With no continuity of directors between the films it was left to Kristel herself to try and develop the character through a series of increasingly repetitive scenarios. When Emmanuelle falls in love with a film director she discovers an emotional emptiness at the heart of her current lifestyle. With her eyes newly opened, she rounds on the fickle, bitchy jet set brigade: "They are ludicrous with their talk of eroticism." The spell is well and truly broken.

On the DVD: Presented in widescreen 16:9 format with sharp picture quality, this release reproduces the original theatrical viewing experience down to the occasionally comical lack of synchronicity between the dubbed dialogue and the actors' lips. Serge Gainsbourg, the enfant terrible of French chanson, was never too fussy about his art and contributes a score of surprising banality which we can thoroughly appreciate thanks to the quality of the Dolby Digital soundtrack. The only extra feature is the original theatrical trailer, still trading on the original Emmanuelle's reputation as the "longest caress in French cinema". --Piers Ford

Out of the three Emmanualle films, this is probably best remembered for its exotic locations. Better than Emmanualle 2, Sylvia Kristal is very good here, although she does act a little wooden at times which is probably due to the direction and script rather than her indifference. Not as erotic as the others, it doesnt really matter for this is probably the most *human* of the series. Explores relationships in greater detail than the others; and it is helped by a rather nice music score too. I am not sure whether there are any cuts in this version, for there maybe some in the video version which spoiled it a little somewhat. The highlight of the film of course, is the famous beach scene with its haunting music score. I am sure Emmanualle fans will buy this anyway. Picture and sound are much better than the video version, and its in widescreen too.

The final film in the original Emmanuelle series a sombre and pretentious affair.
Emmanuelle and her husband Jean(played by Umburto Orsini ) re locate to the Seychelles where they continue their practice of loving one another and any other consenting Adult they can convince to join them in their free loving.
However this time Emmanuelle and a male conquest fall in love and Jean begins to show tradional signs of jelousy and posivness.
Emmanuelle 3 does not deliver as Soft Core entertainment each time a scene is about to get hot the Cameria cuts away there is too much of a travelouge feel to the whole film. Although director Francois Leterrier is happy to allow ample time and film towards fotage that would be better suited to a torist broucher and ponder the dilemas of Emmanuelle and her failing marrige there is little in the way of genuine erotic adventure. The film is an attempt at Art House Cinema the kind of movie that French Cinema is renowned for in the English Speaking world.
Even this it does not pull of convincingly at the whole film looks rushed and awkward. Umburto Orsini acts well as a man in a morale Crisi Sylvia Krystel looks good ,Charlotte Alexandra(of A Real Young Girl infomy) does her bit but her best bits are cut to allow for more time to ponder the dangers of Emmanuelle and Jeans free marige. The film did nothing of note at the Box Office and it is no suprise since the punter goes to see an Emmanuelle film for Erotic Adventures not Intellectual content.

Serge Gainsbourg provides a moddy and evocative Regae influnced soundtrack which is far better then the film.
