I used to have a similar looking support belt in a previous pregnancy 10 years ago and bought this one thinking it'd be the same. ALL support belts have a tendency to roll up and make you sweaty and itchy, esp. when it's hot, but my previous one was much softer, wider and also more 'cushiony' at the front, so it'd more or less take the shape of my belly after a few uses and be much more comfortable, plus would provide much more support being wider.

This is just a rather narrow strip(in my opinion looks slightly wider in the picture than it is in real life) of velcro-ed elastic which is the same width throughout, with hard edges which dig into your belly when you sit down and even when you walk. In my previous belt the adjustable flaps were sort of wing shaped and rounded, while in this belt they end in hard right angles, which add to the poking and digging in sensation unless you make absolutely sure they never overlap the velcro area. I regret purchasing it.

Good for the price 26 April 2010

I have been suffering from SPD (symphysis pubis dysfunction) during pregnancy. This product can help but needs to be fitted correctly. I bought this before I had my physio apt. This belt is a cheaper version of a support belt recommended by the physio (which costs arond £33). Basically, it works in the same way but it is made of cheaper materials (and therefore is a bit harsher and can dig in a bit). The only problem I had is that it needs to be fitted correctly. At first I tried to fit it as shown in the product picture - this may be OK for other problems but not for SPD. The physio showed me that it needs to sit lower at the back, therefore supporting the pelvic bones and limiting the stretching which causes the condition. With the belt too high at the back I found that it was digging in under the bump and quite uncomfortable after a while. Now, wearing it more evenly around my hip bones it is more comfortable and it helps my SPD. Maybe not as good as the professionaly recommended version but a lot cheaper.

Pretty Ineffective 8 Oct 2008

I bought this and found it was literally just an overpriced big bit of elastic with velcro, which was too narrow and unstructured to offer any support past 4 months. After that it just pinched and rolled under the bump. (The product image shows a much more heavily pregnant woman wearing it). I would just invest in good maternity trousers or a full on orthopeadic belt next time and save my money.
