Book Description

An Emissary from an empire spanning over three hundred worlds and dominated by a conquering race known as The Shining Ones, has arrived on Earth with a message. In precisely five years an armada of war ships will arrive at the border of the solar system and await our declaration of war or surrender. With all the knowledge and technology he possesses Maru had not expected the people of the Earth to reject him as a fraud. Unless he can overcome their scepticism in time the Earth will surely be lost.

Both options carry rewards and perils. Surrendering will grant the Earth the status of an Honourable Surrendering World. The Earth and its population will be annexed by The Shining Ones. There will never again be hunger, war or sickness but the Earth and all it contains will belong to The Shining Ones and the Earth and its people will never be free.

Declaring war and attempting to defend the Earth against the invaders will result in either defeat or victory. If we triumph against them the Earth will have earned equal status with The Shining Ones and will be invited to join with them as equal masters of the Galaxy. If we lose the battle all the peoples of the Earth will be cruelly enslaved and scattered throughout the Galaxy.

The Shining Ones send an Emissary to every technologically developed world they find with both the warning of the coming invasion and the technology to prepare an effective defence against them. The invaders believe there is no honour in slaughter neither is there anything to learn from a species that is not capable of mounting an effective defence.

They equip each Emissary with an advanced spaceship and sentient computer assistant whose mission is to both monitor the Emissary and assist him in preparing his target world for the oncoming invasion. The ship contains the plans for advanced weaponry that can be accessed only after the assigned Emissary has delivered his message to all the world’s governments.

The peoples of the Earth are divided in their response to the coming invasion. A few developed nations are prepared to take up the challenge and defend the Earth but the majority of the world’s nations, believing they would be better off under the control of the invaders, decide to surrender.

Realizing they cannot win a United Nations vote, a handful of countries create a secret army in preparation to meet the invading armada. Headed by a brilliant Australian military strategist, a genius astronomer and an American weapons expert, the newly created Solar Defence Force are assisted by the Emissary to create a host of exotic weapons and spaceships that will enable the Earth to triumph against the invaders.

When the surrendering nations discover the secret army and their plan to declare war against the invaders they too hatch a plot to broadcast a surrender signal before war can be declare. Will the fate of the Earth be decided by diplomats or warriors?

This book appears to have never been in the hands of an editor. The plot is simple and full of holes. Find something else to do with your free time and five dollars. I wish I had.

Fntastic story! I couldn't put it down. This is a story rich in imagination and great characters. I could visualise every scene and I really cheered for the heroes and loved watching the villans get it. I can't wait for the sequal!
