More About the Author

I started writing one sunny afternoon whilst on holiday in Cornwall, sitting in a conservatory, watching my children play - the sky was brilliant blue, the sun dazzlingly bright, and the day seemed to last forever...

My Books, 'Emily Pilcher: Pilcher's Farm!' and 'Emily Pilcher and the Golden Eye!' are available in the Amazon store.

Emily Pilcher: Pilcher's Farm! (The Adventures of Emily Pilcher - Book One)

Meet Miss Yorktown and the newfangled, AutoManagement, Feeding, Cleaning and Veterinary Console! ™

Emily lives on a boring old farm that has no animals. As a rare birthday treat, her parents, the bumbling Mr and Mrs Pilcher, take Emily to Wallington Zoo to meet the formidable head zookeeper, Miss Yorktown and the newfangled AutoManagement, Feeding, Cleaning and Veterinary Console! ™

When the bonkers machine blows up, opening every door, gate and hatch in the zoo! The animals break out, creating havoc in the town centre!

Events take a turn for the worse when Bertha, a very old, very tired, and very grumpy looking rhinoceros, takes exception and confronts Miss Yorktown in the town square. Pandemonium ensues as Bertha lowers her 31-inch horn and begins to charge...

A wacky, fun-filled, fast-paced adventure, full of colourful characters and rampaging animals!

Emily Pilcher and the Golden Eye! (The Adventures of Emily Pilcher - Book Two)

"The one with golden eyes will guide you. Look for a whirlwind from the star above and do not be afraid. Evil dwells among the acacia and holds the two that you seek."

Emily and her parents, the bumbling Mr and Mrs Pilcher, join Wallington Zoo's formidable head-keeper, Miss Yorktown, on a mission to repatriate rare and endangered species to the wild.

After a long sea voyage aboard the African Star, the colourful Captain Fernandez warns the group to be wary of poachers! Arriving in the East African port of Mombasa, the group join Dr Aruna, an endangered animal expert. A long and arduous overland journey ensues, but not before the group stop off at a small village, where Dr Aruna introduces Emily to his niece, Zanta.

Emily and Zanta hit it off at once. To their surprise, the girls find out that they have many things in common, despite living so far apart and in such different environments. Both love animals and want to be vets when they grew up, and both hate rude boys, homework and football! They vow to be best friends.

When three evil poachers kidnap Emily's hapless parents, Emily is beside herself with worry and wanders off into the African bush, alone. Age-old wisdom comes to Emily's rescue in the form of Zanta and her mysterious grandfather...but can the girls rescue Emily's parents?

A fun-filled adventure full of colourful characters set against a backdrop of travel, friendship and whispered secrets!

......and another triumph for this author. Yet again, as in Pilcher's Farm, the description of all the characters and the events are so vivid that the reader is totally sucked into the adventure. Humour, tension, excitement and so much colour and imagination, this book has it all - BRAVO!

This is the second Emily Pilcher book and although it can be read as a stand alone I highly recommend reading the first book, Pilcher's Farm, before this one. That way you will understand a little more about the characters and they all came to be involved with each other.

Let me say right off the bat, that this is an excellent story. The book starts with Emily (8) as a contestant in a game show. One player's dad tries to swing the game in his son's favor but Miss Yorktown (zookeeper at Wallington Zoo) is not having that so he gets disqualified and in a very tight match, Emily is the winner of one hundred and fifty thousand pounds! (Yes this book is written by a British author.) Emily donates the money to the Wallington Animals Repatriation Fund.

There follows an exciting adventure for Miss Yorktown, Mr and Mrs Pilcher, Emily and the animals as they make their way to Africa aboard the ship 'African Star.' They land in Mombasa and then have to travel across land to reach the Serengeti, meeting Dr. Aruna and Zanta on the way.

Zanta and Emily soon become the best of friends. On release day (a leopard, cheetah and cubs along with three orphan elephants), all the animals are released just fine but they then get a frantic call from Mr and Mrs Pilcher - POACHERS! With her parents kidnapped by the poachers, Emily is very worried and foolishly wanders off by herself. Zanta finds her but will they find Emily's parents? Who helps guide them and who rescues them in the end?

This is a short, captivating chapter book, clean with no bad language or inappropriate behavior. The only thing you read is sometimes the adults are drinking beer, meeting in the pub/tavern but that is only a couple of times. It is written in British English so you will read crisps (chips), cheque (check), tyres (tires) etc but that didn't bother me as that is where I am originally from :) For Americans reading the book it is a good education and opportunity to see that we really do not talk the same language!

Please note that I edited this review on March 22nd, 2014 after the author did some much needed editing :) HIGHLY RECOMMENDED from our house to yours!
