3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing., 22 April 2008
By N. Snow "rivaldodenilson" (Hampshire) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I've long been a fan of Sasha's music, especially his own productions. He has released several amazing CDs, particularly the Xpander EP, Airdrawndagger and the Involver mix. In each of these, Sasha managed to create some beautiful electronic music encompassing a range of styles. He has also released some fantastic rarities including Scorchio, Artificial Heart, Motorola, breezer and Seal Clubbing. So naturally when I heard that he would be releasing some brand new material, i was really excited. I downloaded each new track as he released them over a series of months, until there were enough to compile on this little album. So do we get another airdrawndagger?

No. We get 4 songs, and non of them are particularly brilliant. I admit that the new edit of Coma is a great track, but the original was really boring. Park It In The Shade is the most repetitive and boring track Sasha has ever produced and Who Killed Sparky is not much better. Mongoose would have to be the best track for me, but only in it's short form. The 10 minute version is far too long. Basically, Sasha's music seems to have become far more minimal and progressive, with more time experimenting and deviating then really delivering anything with any real substance. Furthermore, apart from Slam's Soma remix of Coma and The Field's disco remix of Mongoose, the remixes are dreadful. I will probably never listen to the first disc of this album ever again.

And yet, there is one saving grace here. The soundtrack to the surf film "New Emissions of Light and Sound" and bless Sasha for putting this on here. This score is a lovely, chilled out mix of electronica, reminiscent of many tracks from Airdrawndagger. In my opinion, this could have been a separate release, in the form of a second solo album. It is by far the best music on this 2 disc set and it actually makes it a worthwhile purchase. Unfortunately, the songs are in the form of one long mix, but it's not hard to separate them with a mixing program. So to summarise, this album is worth buying for the bonus track, which is basically a mini album in itself, but the main tracks are, in my opinion, throughly disappointing. Perhaps instead of releasing 4 tracks over 4 months Sasha could have made a whole album featuring music from the New Emissions score and some of the tracks that I've heard on the Juan Carlos Plata soundtrack. This would have made a far greater album than this disappointing selection of tracks and aweful remixes.

PS: Why not just hire classics like Hybrid, Bedrock or Oakenfold to do the remixes?

3.0 out of 5 stars Sub-standard remixes, 1 May 2008

Disc 2 is good but overall this is a dissapointing release from the Man.
Diggers really has taken over as the better of the two. Transitions 4 is just epic.
