Product Description

Product Description

This Book draws on recent research to explore the theology, sociology and spirituality behind some Emerging & Fresh Expressions of Church in the UK and US. It looks at changes in society in our postmodern high tech and consumptive culture. It explores the development of new forms of mysticism as spiritual tourism as a form of spirituality in our post-religion culture. This book is a must for all those who work or who are interested in the interface between spirituality and culture.

From the Publisher

This book is one of the first actual books to come out of the experiences and views of practitioners. Many books in this area tend to be written by theologians who are interested in the area. This book focuses on praxis and real experience, out of contextual and thinking theologians on the coal face of seeking to build ecclesial communities out of contextual mission. This is not an easy task, and there is therefore a wealth of information in this book.

Ian Mobsby has done a very good job in arguing that fresh expressions of church are legitimate forms of church within Anglicanism as it has been traditionally understood. He argues from both the Catholic and Evangelical traditions, demonstrating that these new forms are hopeful signs of the Spirit at work within our present post-christian context.

He usefully uses both succinct theological argument and sociological and anthropological research to demonstrate both a coherence with the past and an active engagement with the present.

Any person interested in what new forms of church are appropriate for our present UK context should read this book.

Heartily recommended.

This book gives an excellent reflection of the UK Emerging Church scene from the view points of practitioners, a much under utilised resource. I found the book extremely helpful to think through the complex situation of church and mission in the twenty first century

I found the writing of this book to be profound and world view changing. It is refreshing to hear the voices of practitioners of th emerging church in a book. Books on the emerging church tend to be written by those who are overly radical whose emerging communities failed to be sustainable as they were too extreme - or by those who critique and never get their hands dirty in the doing. This book - is a refreshing change. It comes out of the commitment to practical and pastoral theology with a commitment to a phenominological approach - well done - it has deeply helped me.
