Take a chance on a trilogy readers are calling "explosive", "a home run", and "a perfect ending to an exciting trilogy".

The Emerald Talisman, Book #1 in the Talisman Series

You can run from your destiny, but you can't hide.

If for no other reason than to help endure the hormonal rush of high school, sixteen-year-old Julia Parker would trade her ability to feel her fellow students' emotions in a heartbeat, especially half the boys in class.

When the beguiling Nicholas uses his superhuman strength to rescue Julia from the edge of a cliff before she's devoured by a bloodthirsty stalker, Julia is suddenly thrust into an underground world where people and animals are often one and the same. Fellow high school students disappear and only Julia and Nicholas know the truth. While Nicholas, a vampire hunter, is out stopping the ever-growing coven, an old friend entices Julia to join him on the dark side and a psychic tells Julia she alone is the key to stopping the madness, problem is it'll require Nicholas' life.

THE EMERALD TALISMAN is a page turning rollercoaster that will appeal to young adult women interested in a different take on the traditional teenage vampire love story. Instead, the readers are given a warm blooded, green-eyed, hot, day-walking hero who is there when you need him, but disappears when you want him.

Written in first person narrative from Julia's perspective. The first thing I would like to point out is that I really did not think the name suited the character at all. Really interesting extra sensory talent of reading emotions was very fascinating.

The mystery surrounding her Mothers disappearance adds a parallel to the current plot. Plot hints are placed throughout, leading the reader to add the puzzle pieces together before they are revealed within the narrative.

The writing is delightfully descriptive making the imagery very easy to picture. Although I have to admit that I really did not like the idea of the fish pedicure at all. I have to add that the continued use of the word 'drug' made me actually wince, it was that annoying.

Parts of Julia's characterisation was a bit confusing, the mix of teen emotions made her appear somewhat self-absorbed not in keeping with the general impression I had of her. I did feel that this book has set the basis for the progression of the series. A lot of time was spent of character development and interactions as well as revealing the background leading up to present day events. Although I was left with the feeling that not enough of my questions were answered. I felt as if I needed a bit more substance to the story. I was a bit bemused by Julia's complete infatuation with Nicholas after their first encounter, infatuation is probably too mild a word, it was as if she was totally consumed by thoughts of him. The portrayal of friendship was really lovely, I guess being able to read emotions makes it easier to know who your true friends are.

The ingenious use of biblical references added validity to the plot. Proving that my fear of snakes is completely justified.

OK OK I know everyone uses Buffy references but I really have to in this instance; Julia is surely a totally obvious choice for Vampire Slayer while Nicholas is all broody, has the half vampire thing going on, and is totally reminiscent of Angel. There I said it.

A really interesting take on Vampire mythology,a compelling start to what promises to be a very gripping series.

Saying this book tested my patience does not even begin to cover it; it truly exhausted every ounce of whatever patience there was in me. While I admit I was intrigued about its premise at first, and was thoroughly excited at having the book in my hands, eventually I had to get rid of it or risk insanity.

For the record, I actually did not finish the book. So whether or not you'd take my review as accurate, I'll leave it for you to decide. However, note that I did try to read as much of this book as I could possibly endure. But it just was not possible to finish the book.

The protagonist, Julia, narrates the story and this pretty much guaranteed it's downfall for me. She's a whiny character, one that comes across as stupid more than naive. She's also rather weak in character and I was especially put off with her incessant pining after Nicholas.

So the guy heroically saves her and she falls head over heels in love at first sight, granted. But when Nicholas fails to show up after his saving her, she acts as if her life has suddenly lost its purpose. She goes through the five stages of grief, as though she has lost a lover. She begins blaming him, acting as if Nicholas owed her a lengthy explanation for promising to show up and somehow failing to do so (sure, a promise is a promise - but when a stranger promised something to you, do you honestly fall into a depression when it's broken? Aren't you more likely to be surprised if that stranger actually fulfilled a promised visit?). She also actually gets into the point where she tells herself to finally 'move on' from Nicholas. Move on? As if they ever had a relationship in the first place? It was just too pathetic.

Of course a good mystery and even more mysterious hero is always welcomed in my book - but as I waited for the mystery to unravel, there was nothing else to sustain the plot other than Julia's never-ending pining for Nicholas. Not only did this lack of subplot resulted in the dragging of the storyline, it also made it boring, and Julia's narrative practically killed it for me. Being annoyed to death by this character overshadowed my reading experience so much I can hardly comment on the book's writing and structure.

So sadly, despite my initial enthusiasm, Emerald Talisman turned out to be rather unbearable

I really, really loved this book! It is absolutely FABULOUS!!!
The Emerald Talisman is about Julia, a girl who can feel other's emotions, and who lost her mother when she dissappeared without a trace...
She's stalked by something, something scary. But when she's stalked for the second time, it can't be avoided. Julia's mysterious rescuer has to come clean...

But what Julia discovers is not what she expects...

Great for age 10-15, and I gurantee you will LOVE it!
