Product Description

Review

It is a book which children up to about 8 would enjoy both in and out of school ... The presentation is impeccable ... This life-enhancing book would make a lovely gift or an attractive and useful addition to the Key Stage 1 collection (Books for Keeps )

A useful multicultural book for linking numeracy, literacy and geography. Especially good for children with African ancestry (Books for Babies and Toddlers )

A positive and fresh perspective on African culture (Child Education )

Uses photographic illustrations and could inspire you to make counting books of your own. Children need to know that maths is an integral part of every day life, an exciting and useful tool by which we make sense of the world around us. This book will do just that. (Early Years Educator )

Baby Magazine

"This book is geography and numbers rolled into one and the beautiful photographs of the Igala tribe make it stand alone."

One, two, three cheers for Emeka! 4 April 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My toddler daughter and I discovered this book on display at a special African exhibit of the Iowa Children's Museum. In a state with precious little diversity, the children were so curious about Emeka's African village world - so different from Iowa farms. After looking at the pictures of village life, my daughter wrapped herself in brightly-colored African fabrics and danced around shaking the sheker - just like she saw in Emeka's Gift.

African tale with International appeal 30 Oct 2005
By Eleanor Jeffers - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I was delighted with this book and the American children with whom I shared it were entranced. I will be taking it with me as a gift to children in an orphanage near Nairobi but have already purchased a second copy to remain here in our church school.I highly recommend it!

Very Good Counting Book 13 Sep 2000
By Paul Martin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Fine for 3-8 year-olds, as the title indicates, this is a good counting book that exposes childern to Nigerian culture.

Wait, it's not boring. The author keeps the factual information to a minimum, just giving interesting tidbits of a different culture, so your little ones should find it compelling while mastering their counting.
