Product Description

Embroidery renegade, Jenny Hart, gives her many fans what they've been clamoring for since the "Stitch-It Kit" was published: new stitches, new patterns, new projects, new techniques, and new transfers, all in her signature Sublime Stitching style, which has fetched so much praise from crafters. This book includes projects that go far beyond stitching on plain cloth, such as photo fabric transfers, paper embroidery, embellishing patterned fabric, using glow-in-the-dark or metallic thread, and much more, plus lots of inspirational photos, never before published stitches, and more than 30 reusable iron-on transfers.

About the Author

Jenny Hart is the leading designer of contemporary embroidery in business today, credited by many publications with single-handedly reviving the interest in embroidery for a new generation. Her work and company has been featured in Nylon, ReadyMade, The Wall Street Journal, Real Simple, Adorn, BUST, Craft, Country Living, Rolling Stone, New York Times Magazine, among others.

Jenny Hart has a lot to answer for. It is arguable that the phenomenon that is Sublime Stitching has done an awful lot to revitalise the embroidery field and enthuse a great many people about the joys of stitchery. And for that I thank her.
Jenny's written a few books on embroidery, but Embroidery Effects encapsulates all her learning and experience as a stitcher and as a teacher, to provide an essential guide to everything you need to know to get going with a needle and thread.
I'll come out and say it - I like this book. I like the fact that the book is ring bound and is clearly capable of withstanding a lot of use. I like the layouts and font choices - the overall design is contemporary and elegant, but not too girly either (which is important from my perspective).
The instruction sections give you a clear understanding of how to create the stitches, and the book provides you with a good portfolio of basic stitches that will enable you to create your own embroideries with confidence. Many embroidery books endeavour to show you as many stitches as possible, and often take the basic stitches for granted, yet these stitches are the most challenging for beginners who don't know how to stitch. Jenny takes the time to show you these basic stitches and leaves you with a stable foundation from which to develop your stitching experience.
The Projects section of the book provides ideas for you to stitch including ideas for the home and clever ways of embellishing fashion items. Transfers are included to help you on your way and the book includes a handy pouch at the front to stop you losing those transfers down the back of the sofa. There are even suggestions on creative ways of using Glow In The Dark thread and variegated threads, both of which are personal favourites of mine, so I was very pleased to find these little treats in there.
All in all this book is a terrific resource for anyone who wants to begin stitching. Jenny's love of the subject matter emanates throughout the book; her narrative is warm and friendly, and avoids condescension. The book arms you with skills and suggestions, but without being too prescriptive. The design and layout make it easy to learn and the construction of the book means it will last a long time.
It is a great book.

I read all the reviews before buying book...and I must say it's well worth the money.
great layout, and practical format, beautiful photos, well written but i must say , for a novice like me,(I was looking for clear starters like how long the thread has to be) it gets a bit difficult to understand the illustrations and it can take awhile before you 'get it', that is if you even 'get it' at all! but I repeat a great reference book to have.

I ordered this book because I am really into craft and fancied something a bit different (I already have lots of books on knitting and sewing and home stuff). I have never done any embroidery before so was keen to give it a go.
The book it a little more text heavy than I was expecting though but it is easy to follow. The part I liked most was the idea of stitching on printed patterned fabric so it has given me the confidence to try that out! The project ideas are ok but not sure I would really want to wear embroidered jeans!! There are some nice ideas if you have children though.
Lovely book which I am glad to add to my collection of craft books.

A lovely book if you enjoy stitching. Unlike other books, it has nice, modern inspiring pictures. I love this book but feel there could have been a bit more in it.

Inspiring
It was nice to read a book that was by someone who 'never took much interest in sewing before' and didn't have anyone else to teach her, and she had same problems as me as I don't... Read more
