4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal angel romance 4 Oct 2011
This is the debut novel from Australian author Jessica Shirvington. I've been waiting months for a UK release, so I was incredibly excited to finally receive a copy. I picked it up almost as soon as it fell through my mailbox and I was glued to the pages for the rest of the day!

Violet Eden has just turned seventeen and the only thing she wants for her birthday is to have Lincoln, the guy whom she's known for two years and fallen in love with. Lincoln however, seems determined to keep her at a distance. Violet eventually accidentally discovers a secret surrounding her heritage which changes her whole world and makes her reassess everything she thought she knew and felt about Lincoln and her life.

When I started this book I wondered whether I'd have to read on through most of the story before the big secret about Violet was revealed. Happily that wasn't the case and Shirvington wasted little time in letting the plot unfold and clueing readers in on the important choice that Violet faced. She was then left with more time to devote to the love triangle which forms between Violet, Lincoln and mysterious new guy Phoenix, who suddenly appears on the scene and who seems to have a magnetic hold over Violet. I have to say that I'm definitely a Lincoln fan! He is utterly adorable! If you like the strong, silent and mysterious type then Lincoln most certainly fits the bill. I never really felt entirely won over by Phoenix. He does do some incredible things in the romance department but I spent a good part of the book willing Violet to open her eyes and see his true character.

I adored the angel mythology and the depth and detail in which their history is described.

5.0 out of 5 stars A darker, gritter, sexier angel book 15 Mar 2012
By Amazon Customer VINE VOICE
Embrace by debut novelist Jessica Shirvington is getting a lot of buzz right now in America and so imagine my surprise when I found out that it had already been published in the UK last year. How did I miss this? Honestly, I think it has a lot to do with the cover. I know that we shouldn't just a book by its cover but the cover is the first thing that attracts you to wanting to know more about the book, just like you have to be attracted to a person to want to know more about them. The UK cover is dark and not eye catching in the slightest. I actually think it blends in too well with all the other dark romance books on the shelves. Now compare that to the vibrant, violet beauty that is the US cover and to be honest, there's no competition. I've ordered the US version based on that alone as I loved the book.

It's no secret that I'm a bit of an angel girl and as such, I do like reading YA fiction about angels. I will admit to becoming a bit fatigued with the subject though especially as there has been an influx of angel books in recent times. So, what makes this book different? It's darker, grittier, sexier and just VERY, VERY GOOD!

The main protagonist is Violet Eden and she's just a normal girl trying to get over something awful that happened to her. I very much like her mantra (don't run and don't quit) and am thinking of adopting this for myself or at the very least, it's begging to go on a t-shirt. Violet is a 3 dimensional character with personality and integrity. Ever since she was attacked, she has been learning to defend herself through kick boxing, I mean this is not some chick that is going to lie down and let life walk all over her and that makes me want to high five the crap out of her.

4.0 out of 5 stars Embrace-Honest review 29 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I just want to start off by saying I love reading! I read up to four books a week. So I have read lot's of interesting books.

When I saw the cover to this book, I thought, wow this looks interesting and the cover is simply beautiful. When I read the blurb, I thought this is definitely my kind of book; fast paced, engaging, fun, romantic and unique all at the same time. I bought it immediately having seen it and was not dissapointed when I read it. It's brilliant and well worth buying. LIke I said, I've read loads of other books and this is one of my favourites. I cannot wait to read the second book 'Enticed'. The cover on that looks amazing too and I just want to find out what happens with the love triangle.

It's not your typical book which I liked because you could never predict what would happen in the end. Also, when you thought it couldn't get any better, or not much more would happen, it did! It kept me on edge and I really felt a connection with Violet and felt the emotions she felt. It sounds weird, but it's true!

I loved both Lincoln and Phoenix because they are both a big part of the story and it's hard to dislike one of the two. I found Phoenix more intriguing because of his past and his outrageous character; you never knew what he was going to do! They both ooze sexiness and Lincoln is very charming. I am hoping to buy the next book soon and find out what happens between all the characters; whether Violet's dad will find out, if Phoenix will mess with Violet's emotions again, if she will be able to be with Lincoln.

I hope this helps!
