5.0 out of 5 stars More sublime soothing piano tunes 30 Jun 2010
Format:Audio CD
This set heralds the much welcome return of Helen Jane Long after her 2007 set "Porcelain".

Those that enjoyed that album will find much to enjoy again this time around... Helen hasn't strayed far from that album.... in essence, this is another album of piano solo arrangements with some string accompanying on the majority of the tracks.

I loved her last album and im really enjoying getting to know some new arrangements by Helen. In the past, when i have played this music to others, i have heard the same criticism that it's too samey, dull, slow and boring but i find Helen's work anything but... it's not music for a wild house party or anything... but it's for more relaxed, quiet times... and there's nothing wrong with that...

My personal faves so far:

Embers is a great opener. it's a lovely, slow burning (pardon the pun) track that draws you in immediately to a more quiet and still mood.

One day is a more energetic piece, its got a lovely breezy feel to it.

To Dust- my fave so far, i love how the strings and piano arrangements feed off each other... it gives the track a lovely lilting feel.

Besides and Just - the closing two tracks are very soothing, slow and pensive in tone.

Overall, i find this album to be just as enjoyable as her 2007 "Porcelain"... maybe some might feel it's too samey or too alike her last album, but i'm glad she has stayed true to herself and her great skill on the piano shines through resoundingly on this album again... i say, listen closely and give each piece a proper chance to sink in, and you'll find yourself drifting away, relaxing and enjoying the music for what it is... soulful and soothing music.

A job well done by Helen Jane Long again!

3.0 out of 5 stars No glow for me 11 Jun 2011

Maybe I've been spoiled listening to Ludovico Einaudi but nothing really grabed me as great and wanting to listen again on this album, some of the tracks are worth a listen and maybe they will grow on me but I prefer Ludovico at present.
Update, after having the album for about a year I do play it in the car and some of the tracks do grow on you so album is quite good for the money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Embers by Helen Jane Long: Relaxing listening 6 Jan 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
If you like Einaudi why not try the haunting piano music of Helen Jane Long? Lovely, haunting melodies.
However, given its short running time, it is relatively expensive and poorly packaged in a cardboard slip case with little information.

This is wonderful, most brilliant piano music. So relaxing and you want to play it over and over.
The item was received promptly and appropriately packaged. I cannot recommend both Amazon and the music enough. Fantastic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music . 25 Feb 2014

Melodic, serene with nice tempo changes. Highly recommend if you enjoy piano music. Not what I would have described as minimalist music as there are some lovely accompaniments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic fantastic fantastic! 5 Jan 2014

As often when i'me on your site i look to see if any new CD's from artists which i follow have released something new. As in the case of Ludovico Einaudi. Ludovico technique is diffinitly not Ludovico Einaudi! I bought the CD, "the pig in the sack" as they say in Sweden; without listeninging beforehand. This was a big mistake! A mistake i have made with you on too many earlier occasions. If there was a way to listen to CD's Before hand then i wouldn't continually be making this mistake and would be buying more CD's from you. As it is i'me out on other sites to listen beforehand, unfortunatly they often times don't have the CD'd imé interested in. Call it what you will but i call it bad costomer service.
Sincerly, John Biddle

A great follow up to her previous "Porcelain" album, and makes a new step along the 'minimalist' road. Am looking forward to her next.

The female Einaudi. The same musical style but tamer with a softer more subtle softness. A Definite must to soothe strained nerves.
